Get your personal board of directors through your trusted netwoking contacts.

You need help

It is said that there is no such thing as a self made person. I agree. People only reach their goals with the help of others. All the successful entrepreneurs have teams of people around them that help them to turn ideas into businesses. They bounce their ideas off these people and get their thoughts. Usually these will be trusted employees.

But who can you turn to if you are not a successful entrepreneur with teams of trust employees? Well for me the answer is my network of contacts. I will talk to people who I trust from my network to tell them a plan I have or about what I am planning to do in my business. These people are already in business themselves. I have a relationship with them where I know, like and trust them. They are my personal board of directors.

Now, I understand that you have to be careful here. You may start telling the wrong person about a great business idea and then find out they nick that idea off you. So as I said above the people you trust are the people you go to.

Business networking gives you the opportunity over time to build trustful relationships with people you would never have met under usual conditions. Most people look at networking as a way of getting business only, and it is so much more than this if done correctly.

You may have heard about how networking is more about farming than hunting. Successful business networkers sow the seeds of long-term relationships and reap the benefit over time, while failed networkers spend their time chasing down their prey at networking events, with the business card and well rehearsed sales patter as their weapon of choice. Make sure that you are the first type of networker. Someone who understands that friendship and trust take time to cultivate. By investing that time you will reap the benefits. And after time you will develop relationships with switched on business owners who become your personal board of directors you can trust to give you good solid advice. And, that works the other way too by the way. You will also find yourself sitting on someone’s board as one of their directors, and that is a nice feeling.
