Places not to wear your Watch
Whether you have paid a few pounds or several thousand pounds for your new watch it pays to remember that watches are delicate instruments and can be easily damaged.
Going to the Gym Today? Take care of your Watch
•Do not wear a watch in a sauna, the heat and steam can cause your watch to deteriorate.
By paying attention to a few simple rules you can keep your watch in good condition.
•Never wear a watch in a plunge pool, the sudden change in temperature can affect the seal and water can enter your watch.
•Keep your watch away from sea water, sea water is corrosive.
•If you are on the beach make sure you keep your watch away from the sand. Sand gets everywhere and just one small grain can cause your watch to stop ticking.
•Remove your watch before taking part in sports, unless your watch is needed for timing e.g. marathon running, in which case ensure that your watch is shock resistant. Playing cricket, basketball, tennis and even snooker can cause damage to your watch. Something else when you remove your watch before sports, make sure you place your watch in a secure locker.
•Always remove your watch before attempting any DIY in the home. The use of power tools such as drills and sanders and contamination by paints, solvents, cleaners and pastes can all cause damage to your watch. Take your watch off before gardening, soil and stones can cause damage as can a spillage of weed killer.
•Remove your watch before any car maintenance, oil can cause a problem and you can easily scratch your watch glass by attempting to carry out engine maintenance.
•Take extra care when showering, it's always best to remove your watch when washing, shaving, putting on makeup, applying aftershave, spraying hair and applying deodorants. All these things can corrode your watch over a period of time.
•Avoid placing your watch near electrical equipment such as medical machines, loudspeakers and electric mixers. All of these contain magnets that can affect the small motors in quartz movement watches which may affect the time keeping.
