My husband has created a brilliant website for me and has done everything he can think of to get my website ranked highly in the search engines. However, I am only appearing on page 7 in Yahoo and gave up after page 40 looking for me on Google. How do you obtain higher ranking? |

Rankings take time - the domain was only bought this year which means it's a babe in arms as far as Google is concerned. Google have indexed the TJB Typing site. The first thing I'd sort out are the title tags. Do the following search on Google: site:tjbtyping.co.uk and then ask yourself if you'd click on your pages if they came up in the search results. The only link found by any of the 3 backlink services I checked is the "My Website" one on your profile (my link in this thread will add a second!) Then it's a process of deciding what to target and picking off the easier stuff first so that you're encouraged enough by the results to carry on. Next move after the title tags is a Google Places listing - couldn't find one for you when I searched for typing services Bexley.
Then onto meta descriptions, content on pages and more links |

It's pretty difficult to summarise any coherent/useful answer to such an open question in anything less than a 4,000 word essay, so make a quick post in this ever-growing thread (http://www.4networking.biz/Forum/ViewTopic/93466?Page=6) and I will do an audit of your website. Currently got a few (4) in the pipeline, so it may take 10 days or so before it goes live, but it should give you a lot of pointers and a starting point, too. Thanks, Gareth |

Quick tip: Put your business address on your site - this not only adds trust but while help with location based searches. I know that you offer services nationwide but many people do search for local businesses and you could corner your local market easier than going national to start with. Plus you can build a reputation locally. Maybe get rid of those W3C logos too. Your clients will not know what they mean and frankly, they do not mean alot! They could serve to confuse.

Michelle, you can get free backlinks easily .... how? Make sure your website address is in your 4n forum signature - I notice that you do not have one. You are seriously missing a trick here. Each time you add a post to these forums, you will get back links to your website BUT ONLY if you have a forum signature that includes your website links. If you don't know how to do your forum signature .... ask for help here in this forum. There's loads of 4ners that will provide you with a bespoke forum signature for very good price. And why have backlinks? Well Google uses backlinks to rank pages. So, things to do TODAY .... add a forum signature that contains your web site link AND make regular forum postings (helpful, informative and fun - not spammy ones, of course).

And, carrying on with the backlinks theme .... you can easily see where your backlinks (and your competitor backlinks) are coming from by using the Yahoo site explorer.
Enter your website's url (e.g. www.mysite.com) into the top field and click on the Explore URL button alongside. In the Results, make sure you click on the InLinks button and select "except from this domain" in the Show Inlinks pick list. The results are web site pages which somehow link to pages on your site. Sometimes, these links are visible in your browser but other times the links are hidden.
If you want to find out which sites are linking to your competitors, then just enter your competitor site urls into the top field.
