Who's your favourite living author?

I'm planning some more 'Dinner & Conversation With..." author events in Huddersfield next spring and I want to know which living authors you'd turn up to see, dog-eared paperback in hand (dog-eared Kindle somehow doesn't have the same ring about it). Joanne Harris, Sophie Hannah and Iain Banks booked so far. |

For some reason main stream authors dont tend to appeal to me. Robert Rankin seems to get over looked as his books are always compared to Terry Practchetts work. Paul Carter has only written a few books about his life on the oil rigs and they are some of the funniest laugh out loud books out there. |

Kate Atkinson - I'm sure she has an interesting story to tell about switching from mainstream to crime fiction. Margaret Forster writes some fascinating non-fiction (and her fiction isn't bad either!).

Thanks for all the excellent suggestions - keep em coming. Got back in contact with Peter James and he was delighted to accept the invitation to come and speak. Will look into the others. Adam, I'm sure Brad would be delighted to be up there with Ian Rankin, Kate Atkinson, David Badlacci and all! |
