Im not interested in automated tweets or anything like that as im a firm believer your accounts should be manned by a person and be real, I want to use some automation for thanks for following etc and maybe automatic follow backs.

Can you reccommend happy to pay for a quality software so doesnt just need to be freebies

Hi Adam - on www.Socialoomph.com you can automate thank you type messages to new followers (I think its the 4$ a month version if you only want this feature) and you can use www.Tweetadder.com to automate following back. I use them both and find them really effective.

Earlier this year we put together a mindmap of twitter tools - divided into the things they do (over 67,000 views so far).

It might help you with your research - I'd start with the follower management tools.
