Was the well-known title of a sci fi book from a good few years back, I think they made it into the movie blade runner.

Last week this video was posted on Facebook and it really got me thinking.

Its Microsoft’s vision of the future, 2019 to be exact.

Well do Developers dream of Microsoft’s vision of the future?

THIS is what I dream of developing each day when I wake up. This is how I view software, a world without keyboard, mice, but with gestures, touch and social, location and smart integration into people’s lifestyles and business.

In my mind all of this is possible right now.  All the technology exists but is it at the stage where it is just too expensive for every day use right now? Possibly

However the shift has happened, we no longer develop for the click of a mouse; we develop for the interaction of humanity with the world around us.

We are standing at the bottom of a mountain but not thinking can we climb it, but how do we climb it.

I agree with what you've said Andrew and an interesting video. But I think Microsoft might be abit short sighted here.

I'd like to think that we'd be alot further ahead than this video suggests. The iPhone, Apps etc were released in 2007 (4 years ago) the iPad a year or two ago.
This video is trying to show what tech will be about in 7/8 years time. I'd be abit disappointed if this was it, because other than some fancy interfaces, (some of which we already have) it's nothing new really. They also show a man typing! I think voice might have come on abit by then.

Think Microsoft could have dreamt bigger couldn't they? How is tech going to help the third world, how can it over come problems we have that fancy interfaces aren't going to help with.
Am I missing something. Not knocking you Andrew, just their limited vision.

I dont disagree in the slightest. I think they are saying these things will be the norm very soon.

I think the point that I was trying to make was that things are changing again, quicker than people maybe realise (maybe even quicker than Microsoft realise too), and its time to start thinking of how you interact with consumers away from the traditional laptop/desktop PC.

Hard to resist the somewhat snarky comment that Microsoft appear to have made Apple's 2015 ad campaign for them (and I'm a PC) Agree with the comments above though, it would have been more interesting to see people in the developing world benefiting from advances in solar power and browser technology (I'm thinking of the Amazon Silk browser here), or people with damaged spinal columns enabled to walk with exoskeletons or myriad other developments that could benefit mankind more than an IKEA fan's erotic dream. I think MS will do anything to try and convince us that the Surface is still part of our collective future...

Microsoft's crystal ball started seriously malfunctioning in about 2004 ("smartphones? tablets? never catch on") so their vision of the future is not one I'd pay much attention to... Blade Runner's still a great film though and I'm excited that there's a Ridley Scott 'prequel' to it in the works...

Microsoft won't be here in 10 years time.

... and if you think that can't happen, look at Kodak. The desktop PC is dying - fast.
