Can I just quickly add myself in as another public transport user, like Carl on the previous page. It is a big deal for me - I can get to the Birmingham breakfasts but would be hard-pressed to get to Coventry etc. on affordable public transport at that time in the morning (e.g. could use my bus pass but it would take over an hour each way). Plus I was working part-time originally; plus my customers are worldwide so I need to be reaching out further than local markets.

I enjoyed the breakfast I went to (although I can't eat cooked breakfasts etc. owing to a health issue!) and met at least one person I have done business with since, and I have picked up work from these forums, too.

Just wanted to pop in my experience, as if there are 2 of us saying this, it's probably more common than people think.

Guess it works out better if you have some spare capacity.

Otherwise, even if you're only billing out at only £50 ph, 4 hours per meeting, twice a week would give you a loss of

8x50 = 400 x 50 = £20,000 in billable hours for the year.

But who goes networking at that level of opportunity cost (£12-20K)? If you were that busy revenue wise for it to really be an opportunity cost you wouldn't. Networking is a business development activity. Think of it like a gym ............. /takes cover

That's why my accountant is advising that I can't afford to attend these meetings!   ;))
