Good post - I enjoyed that. I pays me $99 a month for OSE but don't spend nearly enough time on the site! Thanks for posting. |

is it better than OSE? Toss of a coin really (I prefer Majestic, others prefer OSE - Yahoo! Site Explorer kicked both of them down, but no longer around :(). Advantage to OSE is that it shows no follow, 302 redirects etc. Advantage to Majestic, and why I like it, is that you can go into so much depth and really get proper data - it categorises data a lot better and makes it a lot easier to view i.e. top anchor text linking into particular pages. Worth using the free version of Majestic SEO for your own site - it's only paid for when you start doing competitive analysis. OSE also has a more recent index, Majestic is typically a bit out of date - this essentially means that Majestic may report links which no longer exist. Other good options are hrefs.com, backlinks watch (free but not exactly high performance) and link diagnosis (also free, also nowhere near as good as the two premium options). You can also view the backlink profile for your own website in Google Webmaster Tools - that said, don't trust everything it tells you (Google is precious about link data). |

I'll give it a whirl as I am always interested in trying new things. OSE does show me nofollow (essential) tons of blog comment are obv... Never seen a 302, but plenty of 301 redirects in there. Backlinks watch - that's the STEAL THEIR LINKS, EAT THEIR LUNCH thing??? And yea, how does Google present the info in webmaster tools, I think they describe it as "a selection of websites that link to your website". I'll give Majestic a try though for a few months, but I do think soon I'm going to have to employ the likes of Creare or something outstanding to do my SEO, as I can't break past page 2 for sales training :( |

That said, they have some very impressive rankings in search backed up by a VERY significant resource budget (check their backlink profile):
I often get asked "why are you not ranking no. 1 for "SEO"" - my standard response is:
I rank for what I have a budget to rank for because I'm very good at what I do, but just be careful you don't end up paying more for a LOT less. That and give me a ring if you need a few pointers, always happy at the very least to help out. SEO, much like anything else, is about resources - find the company which is capable of dedicating resources in the RIGHT places which will ultimately lead to more sales through your business (the right place may be spread out across five different terms, rather than one single term...that's where keyword research comes in). On top of that, if you pay me the £1k+ per month you will likely have to pay Creare, I will break my hump for you (like I do for all my clients); and I will give you the best balance between profit for me and resources for you (I don't do 90% margins ;) - heck, I don't even do 30% margins :P; mainly because I don't have their massive overheads). /rant over |

Yes, don't worry I fully understand that whilst Creare have a homepage followed link from www.seroundtable.com (anchor SEO) and probably pay a fortune for it, they are rather unlikely to do such a thing for me. Oh and cssplay (Stu charges £400 a month for homepage links when I last enquired.) Anyway...more here: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=www.seo-creare.co.uk . BTW, is there anyone who doesn't have a link to their site from sixrevisions.com ????? I only mentioned them (Creare) as I have friend who works for them and can get, what I feel is a good price. However, when the time is right I will open it up to anyone. The term sales training is clearly very competitive and I'm losing business by not being up at the top. The time will be right when I have the cashflow, at present that's used up on a mentorship until march. But then I'd want costs, and estimated timescales for knocking MTD off the top spot. And I need to know everything. And Lee, I know - the f'ing thing is built in tables, but I worked for the company that built the site and it doesn't cost anything. It will be replaced but not this side of the summer. Also, their homepage I think is now PR6, and built on the same platform - let's be honest, it's all about the off page really, isn't it? is it? i think so... |
