I know you can't have it all, but tell me, tell me, tell me.

I have a Dell XPS 15Z. Alright, it's a 15" screen, but it's full HD, has an i7 processor and 8ghz RAM. No blu ray, but that's not the end of the world - are you really going to carry them around with you? Decent nVidia graphics card so it should play even Skyrim at a half decent resolution (maybe not 1920....). http://www.dell.com/uk/p/xps-15z/pd I've owned 3 Dell laptops in the past 7 years and have had no problems whatsoever (first one I sold to offset the second, which is still going after 5 years!). 17" screen is overkill, you'd be best buying a second 23-24" monitor for the price difference between a 15" and a 17" and have a 2 monitor setup! It would also make the laptop slightly easier to transport as it wouldn't weigh a ton! |

thank you Christopher, you are right. Now the trend is the hybrid 15" laptop, powerful and light at the same time. I also like these: - samsung RF 710 , R 730, RC 720, - hp pavilion hdx 9320 (maybe old) - hp G 72 - dell inspiron 17 R. I love the ultrabooks but they're too small and they may have problems with batteries, maybe they're not too powerful. I'm not an expert, but my boyfriend suggests a dell, like you.
And the windows 8 will be on the market soon. Should we wait?

Typing this on a 15" Sony Vaio with full HD1080 intel i5, 6GB RAM (but you could spec more), Blu Ray, Ati Radeon graphics. Blisteringly quick, unless you are looking for high end gaming or trying to drive a plotter this sort of spec is great. Cost £599 in Argos Sale. All set up to go with dual screen so you get the best of both worlds - big monitor on your desk and portability when you're out and about. |

Another vote for Dell, but check out the Dell Outlet. I got an XPS 15 off their with a Core i7, 8GB of RAM, Nvidia GT540 and 500GB hard drive for £597 inc. VAT and shipping. That was in October, so prices should have dropped further since then. Check out their 17'' models :) |

I had a problem with the screen on my original one and they ended up sending me the wrong machine twice so they replaced it with a new machine each time! I'm guessing they ended up in the outlet.

thank you guys, HP or DELLs are the ones. I prefer the Nvidia graphic, Simon. What do you think of the Samsungs? |

I've also read this http://www.theverge.com/2012/1/4/2677801/hp-envy-15-review-late-2011 What do you think about the hp envy? there's also the Hp envy 17".
why did you stop commenting? Go on plz |

Samsungs are nice, definitely, but you'll pay for the brand. The HP Envy line are gorgeous, and their latest additions are very cool, but I'd get bugged by a laptop that was such a Mac rip-off; if I wanted a Macbook I'd buy one. |

Macs aren't very good for games because: 1) There aren't nearly as many games made for Mac OS as Windows. 2) You have to pay a lot to get a Mac with a decent graphics card 3) Macs aren't really physically designed for gaming - a good gaming machine will have powerful vans and vents, and most Macs are designed to be quiet and inconspicuous. Windows 8 is due out later this year, but whether you want to wait for it depends on whether you need a machine right now. If you do, don't worry about it - you can always upgrade to W8 in the future if you like the look of it.

Go get a 17" Macbook pro and see how it plays games.... Will blow away most windows based laptops. And if you want to play games that aren't available for Mac OS, you can run windows.... The only question is whether you can afford it! |
