I doubt very much that there were ever going to be any strikes over Easter and that threat of them was only ever political posturing and scaremongering by the Government... It was never likely that the Union would have expected their members to go out on strike and lose a day's pay on a day when they are likely to have been paid on time & half or even double-time!!! |

Agreed. It has been a very convenient stunt to create a smoke screen whereby the Government tries to divert attention away from the brown paper envelope that they gave themselves, their donors and good few others at the Budget. They really do think we are stupid. Gary |

I don't actually know any tanker drivers to hear their side of the story of their working life, but down here in Devon, where a lot of people are either on minimum wage, seasonal work, part-time work of benefits because they can't find work, there is little sympathy for drivers striking for a rise from £45,000 a year to £54,000 which is being quoted. |

Agreed. But that isn't what I said. I said that it is being used as a convenient smoke screen to divert attention away from the Budget. I don't remember any troops being given training to clear the roads when the hauliers took the law into their own hands and, illegally, blockaded roads, the highways and private property to make their point. i think they were also striking to stop being forced to work 48 hour weeks instead of max 40. However after hearing how little a army tanker driving gets paid by comparison equally risking their life everyday i have little sympathy. |
