I saw this article in the People Magazine that explains that being at work with sleep deprivation is as bad as being at work drunk! |

Makes sense. There have been times when I have been so tired I have literally started to nod off while typing. It seems impossible. Lucky I am seated really and not operating a crane or flying a jumbo jet! |

Good information Gary, thanks. If anyone still has difficulty sleeping I have developed a sleep hypnotherapy download which sends you into a natural sleep state, giving you the opprtunity to programme a waking time - and it works, it honestly does because I use it myself when I have a particularly early meeting, or want a "PowerNap" during the day!!. Check out www.hypnosolutions.net and if you contact me directly, 4N members get a discount. Keep up the good work. |

Having worked in the emergency services there were times when I would work 7 shifts in a row. By the last 2 I could hardly string a sentence together or lock on to a thought, it was like alzheimers (past family experience before anyone shouts). That combined with topping up with any legal drug whether it be caffeine, nicotine and of course Red Bull just to get through the night, I would say it was worse than being drunk, certainly none of the fun bits! Sleep deprivation massively affects your work and your ability to concentrate. Thankfully these days my head just hits the keyboard instead of something else. |

Mythbusters did a piece on this and managed to prove that driving while tired was more dangerous than driving while drunk. I myself have had to teach myself the signs of when I'm getting tired as my work pattern has no pattern. I can end up working any time of day or night, so I need to be able to recognise it and go to bed |

Apparently, 50,000 died from driving last year and 10,000 died from drinking, Yet only 500 died from drinking and driving. Then again, only 2 people died from drinking and driving and juggling. I think thats my safest way home then - Lee Mack |

It is obvious that getting a good night sleep is the best way of preparing yourself for a day's work. If your at a job where you have to do alot of reading, and typing it is esential that you sleep well to maintain good concentration levels. Although most people are able to cope with short term sleep deprivation, it can only last so long before your body catches up with you and it effects not only your performance at work but your health as well. |
