skype and screen sharing

Hi all! I have just noticed that I cannot use the tool "share your screen" on Skype, because you need to subscribe to Skype Premium and pay 36 £ a year for that. That's probably because Microsoft bought Skype and it wants to squeeze some money out of it. So my question is: does anybody know another messanger where you don't pay for screen sharing? That could be useful for everyone. Thank you so much! p.s. I hope no other thread has been opened on this subject. p.s. The lesson is: Do not update until you know what you get with that!

It's not integrated with a messenger, but there's always join.me It's free and you can just keep Skype running while you screenshare. |

I have a Skype account and although the telephone side is great the screen sharing is rubbish. If you are thinking of getting an account just for the added screen sharing I wouldnt bother |

Whilst it's an active discussion does anyone happen to know whether you can exchange the standard text messages whilst on a vid call with someone else? I only ask I was on a call with my cousin the other night when I thought message had come through but couldn't work out how to get to it and didn't seem to be there after call ended. Thanks :) |

If using the facility doesn't make you £36 a year then why are you using it? |

Sometimes people pay money just for things they like. Consider people who go to football matches - they pay something like that much every week! |

Hi Carmen you can use the screen sharing tool in Skype without having a premium account as I have done it. However as Richard and Patrick mention join.me is much better and I use it for lots of interaction with clients and friends. Hi David you can exchange messages with whoever you want and each conversation is separate so you can be on a video call and have one or more text conversations going at the same time. If you close the window or cannot see the message for some reason try double clicking on the contact and it should bring up the chat screen for that conversation. Hope this helps :)

You can screen share in video calls on the Skype Free account. Skype Premium's main additional benefit is Group Web Chat (video conference calls, for which £36 pa seems a bargain to be fair) but we have not had a great experience using that. www.join.me is an excellent tool and you can share your screen with up to 250 participants (there is also a paid-for version with premium features, so it is not just microsoft). |

Just upgraded t othe latest version of Skype and it states screen sharing is free on a 1-2-1 basis. Its only "group" sharing that is chargeable. It is only avaialbe from wha tI can see as part of a video call. http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/features/allfeatures/screen-sharing/ |

I screen share all the time. And pay for no account. Me and a client do a screen share for around an hour when we do magazine amends for his monthly magazine. Mac to Mac - not that that should be making any difference. |
