What is your 'big picture'

My big picture is certainly shifting now that I'm soon to be a 'daddy', priorities are changing and it's going to be more about time than money. Or am I being naive? |

Congrats Gareth, fingers crossed I won't be too far behind you! Have to admit, I disagree with Robert's suggestion that people wanting a big house are selfish. My attitude at the moment (married but childless) is to make as much money as I can (within the law/my own moral compass etc) in the hope that we can have kids soon, bring them up in a nice house/neighbourhood etc, and I can ease off work to be a hands on dad. |

Chris I mean those that are just chasing the big house. Like you say you want them for a reason down the line, so they are part of your plan to achieve your core ideals which is ultimately your family. I to am the same I have a relatively big house, in a nice area, and want my kids to grow up there. But my big picture is the family, and the house is just a buy product, of wanting the best for them. I know a couple of people that just want the big house to turn around and say that they have 5 bedrooms which is better than my 4 bedrooms, which is what i mean by selfish. Well done Gareth and good luck chris, kids will most certainly turn your life upside down, it did mine. |

Hi Stef, Always remember--Never take anything for granted, be it health, family, friends, houses, cars, money etc. Life has a funny way of tripping you up just when you think things are going well. It has a funny(often cruel) way of changing your life overnight. I had a nice house, car, business, all the things you think you need and want untill suddenly the grim reaper comes knocking on your door and changes your life forever. You don't think help- I've got to make sure I keep the house, car, money or any of those material things that once mattered. Your ONLY concern is making sure you survive to be able to see your nearest and dearest. It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all, even if it was a nice house, great cars, holidays & lots of money. Nothing comes before good health and taking care of your family giving them quality time. My motto now is always be grateful for every day and not stress over the small stuff.
