Please help. I am trying to create a pop-up warning message for when someone clicks a link to leave my website and go to another which I am not responsible for. I am currently typing in the below and it doesn’t work. Do you actually need this? if they leave your website they leave it, sessions over. Unless your saying this website is an authority on something, but then your terms and conditions should cover you for this. The script doesn't look right. You possibly need a lightbox to open.

Unfortunately we have to have this by law according to our regulatory body the FSA. (I took the structure of the coding above from a website help page) |

ok I would recommend Jquery with a lightbox however you possibly need something to call the lightbox when someone leaves the site. So you need to store either a cookie or a session id. You then need to have if you use a cookie a privacy statment to cover you for the cookies... ;o) http://fancybox.net/ is one site to create the lightbox or iframe. just trying a script see if it works... on hold |

Thank you for the code but for some very strange reason I type it into my html area and then when I re-enter the area it has been deleted? I must be doing something silly, any ideas? |

are you using a template site? can you send me a link to your site so I can look at the code?? you also need to place the code between the <head> </head> tags not in the <body> area.

Add this inside your <head> ..... </head> region;

Hi Andy and James for your help. Andy the above is great and very straight forward, however I am still experiencing problems. I have spoken with James and he says it is because I have created it with 1&1 and they have put some limitations on the site, so just need to find a way to get around it. |

Hi Katie, was good to have a chat, if you run into any more trouble let me know. For anyone else using 1&1 My Website, if you need to add scripts to your header, go to Settings --> Edit Header Section. Paste in your <script></script> there and it will do the trick. Also if anyone needs something similar please use this Fiddle and edit the areas in the top left box where applicable --> http://jsfiddle.net/andyunleashed/pEmtS/6/ Then you can copy and paste to the relevant places in your code. |
