Another newbie today......

Just joined this evening having been invited to the Farnham meeting this morning, and have discovered that the 2 minute (ish) elevator pitch is now confined to history and 40 seconds is now the magic attention span. Thanks to Gordon for inviting me, and Ian, Alec and Margaret for the 10 minute sessions that convinced me that there was gold at the end of this rainbow, nice people and opportunity knocking. Still struggling with how an Ops and Supply Chain interim/consultant (me) distils the complexity of all the stuff that isn't finance or sales and marketing into a 40 second instantly accessible moment of truth. Joining up procurement and logistics and promoting the importance of service agreements amongst the SME community which is likely to expand and grow through alliances and partnerships with service providers seems a bit weak, and am open to suggestions as to how this might get translated, and how to do shorter sentences! |

Hi Neill and welcome. I hope you enjoyed your first 4N meeting. How about just picking one aspect of your business to focus on when doing your 40 seconds pitch? or tell us about a client you have done business with, or a problem you solved? Whatever you do though, enjoy, keep smiling and keep it simple. |

Avoiding long sentences is something I have been advised upon. "Adopt a conversational tone." "Write as you would speak." One former manager turned this on its head on my appraisal form: "Written communication: Should use bullets Oral communcation: As above" (Disappointingly, on the staff enagagement form there was no item asking "how would you like to see your manager rewarded?") Anyway, the message was clear. Use bullets. |

Hi there Neill, how about approaching your 40 seconds (and other marketing messages) from your customers' perspective? What do they get out of it? How do you help them? Three questions to help you:
In essence, look at it from the outside-in. Happy to discuss further if you want a fresh outside perspective - contact me directly if you like. Take care - Steven |
