Binning everything apart fom the twitter RT button above..

It makes sense to me, fattening the twitter button out and binning the rest, I don't think I've ever seen the others used.

Just used the like button to see what it did.... Nothing other than show someone likes it... Stick with the Twitter button only!

True, most business people who chose to share use twitter but why reduce the options avaible for people. With the IPO of Facebook and it's clear massive future I wouldn't rush to remove it. Any share is a good share!

Most people, rightly or wrongly, syndicate their twitter feed to everything else so I would:
Keep - Tweet this, email, G+
Dump - Linkedin and Facebook

as a massive user of LinkedIn buttons, I would say keep it - it is a very powerful connecting tool, and there is lots you can do with it from the point of view of groups and individuals on LI. But hey, I get a lot of business from LI, so understand how much it is worth.

Are they actually causing problems just by being there?  Never saw the need email but the others may come in when I find something worth passing on to my connections?

Getting a bit like a government department on here!  Implement something and before it has had a good chance to bed into the site, you change it.  How long has it taken you to get regular visitors to the site?  Did that happen within 6 months, 1 year, 2 years?  I can bet that some people are not even aware of them being there or even what they would do etc...  So why is there no promotion thing going on, on the site getting people using them?  Is it because it is an idea but no real strategy behind them?  Build it and they will use it?  Is this not the sort of thing we are trying to get new business to recognise in their business?

Surely this is not just a case of putting something on the site because you think it may work and then because people don't use it, you think it is not working?  No strategy, no real promotion and no real push to let people know the benefits of using such things oh and the lack of education!

All this talk of how a business has to put in the hard work to make it work.  Yet, here you put a few buttons on the site and expect everyone to be using them all, for every post!  How many posts have you really seen on here that you think are really worth sharing with your connections?

what i like about the twitter and facebook buttons, you may not have noticed but they actually report the number of times a post has already been tweeted. or at least thats what it does with our website. agree with glenn though people need s much resn as why to use them as they do beng told why they should use 4n

OK, so you are saying when you had the idea for 4N and organised your first ever group, it just worked for you?  Or did you have to put in some work to get people to actually turn up?

Is it not working or not being used, those are two different things.

Brad, until you started to use Apple products, you just did not "get it".  Now you have used them, you have gone the whole hog and bought into it now.  However, if you were asked by others to do it, you would not have, you would still have waited for it to be right for you.

Other than the initial, oooh look we have some new buttons to play with, there has not been anything really to push people towards getting them to use them.  Promo last year was pushing people away from the site to use Twitter et al to promte 4N, why not something that gets people using the buttons to promote it on all their networks?  New people on the forums will not know those buttons have not always been there.

I say again, not everyone know what they are for, what they do and how to use them for their business as well.

For me they don't get in the way, are not annoying and cause no real issues.  Yes if there was content on here I find stimulating enough to share with others then yes I would use them.

If it is things not working you are after, you need to be looking at the advertising space that is currently known as articles, links to their own blogs or random items that should just have been a post on the forum.  Yes there are some that are using them correctly... hang on that sounds similar to this issue doesn't it?

I see let's talk and let's meet are back, even after it was binned for "not working" before.  So the throw away response of it either works or it doesn't does not sit right as a response.

I use the twitter and face book buttons, and do see a use for the others, i'm just not using them at the moment.

I think it is good to have the choice, as we all work and play differently.

Social media moves at a swift place much like video technology, digital photography, mobile phones etc.......

I'd re-address it every 3 months or so and decide on what your happiest with - kinda agree with the statement if it is working keep it - if not try something else.

(spell check on the forum would work for dyslexic typist like me - did I say dyslexic I meant crap!)

Picking a random popular topic from the 4NB forum  - the 6yr amnesty thread - that's got:

  • 25 tweets
  • 33 Facebook shares
  • 11 LinkedIn shares
  • 0 emails
  • 0 Google +1's
  • 12 Facebook Likes

Onto next page, 4N membership changes - the big announcement:

  • 102 tweets
  • 35 Facebook shares
  • 13 Linkedin shares
  • 3 email shares
  • 0 Google +1's
  • 0 Facebook likes

Haven't bothered looking at others - there's be plenty of threads that get Twitter love but no FB action, plenty where it's vice versa, plenty where there's no sharing etc etc.  They're helping more than they're hindering - also a row of buttons is more noticeable than just a single retweet button.

Remove a button for a month and do A/B testing see what comes up.
