You might need to restart your computer' Puzzled bacuse Outlook is closed and when I open Task Manager there are no applications running. The only solution is to reboot. What is happening? |

Next time it happens open Task Manager and click the Processes Tab and you will more than likely see an Outlook.exe process running even though it does not show in running apps |

Do you rely on email for business? Do you manage email on multiple devices? eg: laptop and smart phone? Hi Roger Another possible reason is that your pst file has a problem. Try running the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) on the pst file listed in the above error. (Locate scanpst.exe using the search under your start menu) Regards |

on the topic of email clients... My strong recomendation is Thunderbird from Mozilla. http://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/thunderbird/ Really great client in my opinion. Another reomendation would be the wisestamp plugin that comes on the plugins page for it also. |

Roger, Almost certainly a problem with the PST file. Which would explanin why another application/process is locking the file. Check the process tab on the Task Manager for a process MPAPIs.exe and "End" it. There may be an application (e.g. mobile phone sync) that is using the PST file. The scanpst.exe should fix any problems. Outlook is most easily started in safe mode by holding the CTRL key down when starting Outlook. This will disbalbe any add-on/extensions/plugin from starting which oculd also be a source of problems. |

Aside from the advice above, it's also worth looking at the other programs running on your PC. I use the Google Calendar Sync so that I can Sync my Outlook calendar with my Gmail calendar. I've seen this lock up my PST file in the past. Same may be true for Anti-Virus doing a scan on your PST, if it's in the GB size then it might be taking a little longer than normal to scan it. |

Hi Roger. I was out yesterday otherwise I would have given the same initial answer as Darren. I suspect that deleting a process or restarting the computer will deal with it. If not post an update and hopefully our collective brain cell will be able to help. For anyone else interested in this topic, Adrian's suggestion to use the repair tool is sound but please take a back up first as I have seen it turn a corrupted file into an unusable corrupted file.
