We're all born with a perfect memory, you just have to continuously train it, a lot of people don't believe that!

But yes I'm sure people who had been drinking alcohol or whatever over the weekend might forget things

I have to disagree with this sweeping statement, I was not born like that I have Cerebal Plusy.

Just to chip in with another software option. Try keepass, its free and it has a nice password generator.

Not free but reasonable. 'Roboform'. It syncs with every new site, updates itself when you change passwords and auto logs in and you can install browser plugin or use the online version. I also use it to generate all my passwords. Have used it for 2 years now and love it.

I'm with Elliot as I like KeePass. Appears very secure and has lots of nifty features:

I have a problem with my Karspersky Password Manager now: I can't get into my ROUTER! I tried to switch the PM off but it didn't work. Can anybody help me? Why can this happen?

Just thought id share my thoughts on this as online safety is something i am quite passionate about.

I wouldnt put anyone off using a software manager to remember such if they prefer, but its not my recommended way. Such will ironically have a master password you need to remember , and also, as an added word of caution, theres site hacks going almost daily of late, whos to say lastpass or someone similar wont be the next linkedin, extreme and unlikely i know but hope it makes the point i am trying to make.

Heres one idea... Just use a simple formula you can remember (how simple of complicated you make such is up to you).... lets use an example for amazon.co.uk

So maybe, an an example we start off with the number of characters in the name , amazon has 6 letters , thats gives us the number 6 . Lets then take a fixed string of characters, say a persons initials or date or birth eg abc. They say,  take the 1st, 3rd and 4th letters of Amazon and reverse them (in caps) giving us ZAA. . That would give us a password of 6abcZAA. How far you take this is up to you (eg add a 3 for a .com or a 4 for .co.uk) Can also  use zeros instead of o's, fives instead of S's etc, this helps if you need to change it for some reason as can swap between one and the other but keep the formula intact) but you get the jist . Normally i would advise a formula that would always give you 8 characters or more but hope you get the point.

If you adapt the same formula for every site you use, the password is different each time but all you have to do is remember your chosen formula (three maybe four bits of information that becomes 2nd nature after a while) eg facebook on the above principle would be 8abcECF .Also means, that if the password is compromised, to a hacker its just a string of letters, doesnt mean anything and not something that can obviusly be worked out . Also means the password isnt stored anywhere, neither on someones site somewhere or written down anywhere

The above gives you  a good secure password, using both upper and lower letters and numbers thats easily remembered.

There is no perfect system, no one way will suit everyone,

Anyway, thats my two penneth, hope it helps in some way

Sorry to hear about the problem with Kaspersky. If you want to call me tomorrow morning, I'm sure we can help out. Kaspersky is our favourite PM.
