Autoplay homepage video or not?

Hi, I've been having a bit of a shift about with the content of my website... My next task is reducing the amout of text on homepage so before you tell me its an essay its on my todo list. :) I added a youtube video to my homepage, hoping to make the page a bit more enticing and give another medium to digest a little about what I'm about... My question is do I set it to autoplay when the page loads, or do I let them start the video themselves? I have videos on other pages of my site which do not autopla, as visitng diferent pages on a website and having videos autoplay on lots of them would be frustrating... however for the homepage im torn between the two options, was hopnig to get some opinions here... The video is currently set to autoplay, page is: www.socialmpromotions.co.uk. thanks in advance! :) |

Personally I wouldn't make it autoplay unless the page it's on is a sales letter and the video is near enough the first thing on the page. Not everyone appreciates sounds suddenly coming from their computer, especially if they're viewing at work. |

Not on a homepage. Perhaps on a landing page (where the call to action was to watch a video for example).... but generally best to let the person click play. |

No, for many of the reasons stated above. Also worth considering how this would work on a mobile device such as a phone. Your video and sound would be playing out and the person who came to your site might not be able to see the site well enough to stop the sound. Or woser, the video may not play but the sound will. |

Definitely not. I know of a 4Ner website which you have to go back to the homepage to navigiate and it drives me mad when the sound track replays yet again, and again, and again. |
