Hi everyone haven’t posted for a while, was wondering what the 4N forum has to say about whether Android or Apple?

I know they  are different platforms but my experience has been that if you’re not a 'techie' then you tend to side with apple. If you love your gadgets then Android is the preferred choice. On a side note also if your not a techie and you do happen to choose Android and then decide to go back to Apple you find the interface to be restricted.

I personally think Android is great, I love tinkering with the innards of it, plus the interface is infinitely most customisable then Apple iOS.

But that is only my opinion, now for the 4N forum to have their say it’s over to you……….

Richard

This is a real light the fuse and step back to a safe distance type thread.

I myself am an iPhone fan and now a converted Android fan. To me the Android platform is better and has far, far less restrictions on them. Just ask anyone with an iPhone how to set a custom ring tone and you'll understand what I mean

Totally biased but iPhone

I look at how many apps come out first on the iPhone,  and how many are only iPhone.

plus being a video creative I  see all the new gadgets, add on lenses, cases etc coming out that are iphone only

@Roger - Is it though? Mine is a navigation device, an email device, a browser, a media player and sometimes it makes calls. It is almost a computer in my pocket.

@Jules - There are not many apps that are not available on both platforms and unless there is a specific app that you arr buying the phone for I dont think most people mind waiting.

I think that is the definition of a phone nowadays. They all do that. Buy the cheapest.

True Roger, but this is something you will be stuck with for 12, 18 or 24 months. So the more powerful it is at the start of the contract the less under powered it will be at the end.

A lot of it will come down to how much use of the Apps you make. If you use apps on a regular basis (guilty) and/or you have to have the latest and greatest apps (guilty) then the extra power is really useful. There is going to be more and more uses for your phone over the next couple of years, so the extra capacity wont be wasted

To be honest the computer in my pocket comment is very true as my Phones processor is faster that my netbooks, so where does the divide from being PC and phone lie? Certainly not on a hardware stage.

Android in my view is far more PC like with its customisability and compatibility. Android has 56% of the current market share but that’s really a false figure in that as apple really only has one new device that runs iOS. Android is run on a whole host of different makes and models of phones giving credence to the Windows PC analogy.

Your comment on buying the cheapest is valid but they dont all do the same and not in the same way. There is a push from Android to create a desktop android PC, check the link. I cant see apple doing that somehow.

I'm an iPhone user and a friend of mine recently moved over to a Samgung S3 after getting frustrated with the 'Apple Way'

This just brought a host of other problems - Call quality is really poor, the Calendar won't sync with Google Calendar and as usual nothing makes much sense on the interface.  The grass isn't always greener.

Surprised that he couldnt get his calendar working, Google integration is very good as you can imagine.

I see positivies and negatives on both platforms, but I am an Android fan through and through!

I had an iPhone since the first one and switched over to a Samsung Galaxy S II about 6 months ago and love it.  For the novice, it is defnitely NOT more difficult to use than the iPhone, in fact easier in many ways.

I was helping a friend on an iPhone the other day and realised I can't go back - the iPhone is missing two key buttons that the galaxy has (bottom right and left of the home button) which makes navigation so much quicker and more intuitive on the Samsung.  I kept trying to hit the buttons out of habit but they weren't there ;-(

Hi Richard

It all depends on what you use your phone for. I own an iPhone 4 and to me its the best thing I ever owned and i'd never switch to android. The interface of the iPhone 4 is so simple to use, you can customise it to suit your needs with apps from the app store and thats probably why apple products, particularly the iPhone and the iPad have a big target audience and are on a relatively high pedestal, because some apps are not available for the android platform. Ultimately if you want the simplicity and a phone that runs smoothly i'd recommend Apple over Android (this is not bias, I have tested Android phones before in the past and they seemed very laggy)

Hope this helps

Meg
