I would be very interested in any thoughts people have on a new product a couple of us have put together to help with child safety. And also any feedback on the website http://www.icecodes.co.uk.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Philip,

Not having kids, I won't comment on the product itself, but the one thing you should do with the website is to move the blue boxes further up the page - on my screen they are below the fold so not visible unless I scroll down. Get these near the top - they are your key selling points and call to action and need to be visible (and, obviously, work properly once you are ready to launch Open Mouthed Smile). Some info about payment methods/security would be good too.

Any identification product that helps lost children when they get separated from their parents/grandparents is essential, as long as it's securely fastened to the childs clothing and cannot be easily removed .Depending on the age of the child, children don't always want to keep a rucksack on especially when they are in a theme park.

As a mum of 5 and 2 of them being 2 and 4 I think these are great. Mine youngest wont wear wrist bands but these could be attached to anything they wear.

I also lke the idea that it doesnt have names of the childs or parents. Which isnt always a good thing.

We are always at theme parks and these would definatley be on my items of having with me

Novel idea, Philip, and another good use for QR codes.  You seem to have covered the confidentiality issues.

Can parents change the numbers online - eg if the child is going to spend the weekend with grandparents ?

One thing I spotted on your website is the use of the red cross symbol.  Have you checked that's OK to use ??
It's a protected symbol that in the UK only the British Red Cross are allowed to use.
http://www.redcross.org.uk/About-us/Who-we-are/The-international-Movement/The-emblem (bottom of page)

It hit the news up here last Xmas when one of the big pantos had to alter their costumes :

Also on the website - since it's a business site you should be showing address, phone no, etc

Logo wise you may have some issues with has mentioned above, how many of the + symbols do you now see being green instead?

Product wise, have you looked at dual uses?  i.e. on reflective material so they act as reflectors as well

How about getting the Q code printed on a T-shirt? Difficult to lose that unless the child strips off!

Well as a mother I'll probably be buying one!

The cost seems really good so my instant reaction is as this is new - concerns about how the whole thing is set up and financed - how many people are on the call line - what back up plans are there for that when someone is sick etc. I'd want to see page about how it was developed who with - to add credibility I'd want to see some relevant organsiations giving it their support. e.g. Police NSPCC etc. It's too early to have testimonials but support for the concept etc.

Also, have you approached any schools? Schools may well be interested in promoting this for you which would help with credibility. A page on schools and asking schools to get involved? You could have a day at one and offer to do the tags for people?

I'd want to know what to do if I lose the tag too! What if I buy another one - what happens to the information on the lost one etc.

Agree with above comments regarding the scrolling down, there is also a slight "cheapness" in the buy one now sort of feel too. I'm really not explaining that well but it reminds me of the sites that are selling junk, which this isn't. The website needs some professinal web designer input which I don't think it has had? Need just one page on what ICE is and links to clear guidance on it - because some people still don't have it on their own phones, also adds some credibility regarding ICE and that the original idea comes from the emergency services.

You mention being in talks with theme parks etc. more info on that would be good, all helps with the large orgs taking it on board etc. As well as obviously where you need to be marketing the items. Lends itself to reciprocal links certainly.  Is it possible to make them up there and then at  stall? You could do that in all sorts of places! Sorry you probably know all that and you didn't ask about marketing which I've touched on a lot here!

You could also do with putting something on there about explaining to your child about what it is. Some parents sadly wouldn't think to talk to their child about it! So if they are found the child knows to show the tag to someone straight away. i.e. when you talk to them about what to do if you get lost etc. research the websites which help parents and children with safety and get their approval of the product and reciprocal links.

The website at the moment looks a bit cheap (sorry) with little investment which would make me uneasy about how much investment there is in the phone line and that it appears to be the brain child of a couple of people which is fine but you do mention somewhere on there about being invented by parents for parents - I'd make more of that. Seems very odd to have a product like that without endorsements of major orgs. you need that.

That was wafly and repetative wasn't it sorry, time for bed! Hope there was something helpful there!

I may be back to buy one...

Fab idea Phillip, being a mother of three children myself I can appreciate your thinking behind this.

And of course you have a huge prospective audience to market this to, including schools, nurseries, also good for vulnerable adults, so you could target residential and care homes?

I also have a mum with dementia (she is only in her early 60's) and I wouldn't want to degrade her by getting her to wear a tag that are readily available with her contact details on, however, a keying with the QR code and hotline is a great idea and could be put on her keys, on her bag etc.

Fab idea, great!! Good luck with it.

ARGH Wall of text....just reams and reams of text to wade through.

What is it, what does it do, why should I have one? I have to literally wade through so much blurb to get to the meat of the matter.

Then buying one of these things, what if I want 7 of them?

I fill in the form and hit submit and end up on another site.

Bearing in mind you're targetting this at parents who are, in the main, generally paranoid about being scammed or dubious looking sites etc and whilst I know this is not a dubious site you're overloading it with text and information that you've lobbed into a wordpress template. The buying process is totally jarring as it takes you from your site straight into paypal, there is no indication you're going to do that...again for the novice or uncertain user I doubt they'd purchase, be interesting to see your abandonment at that stage.

Appreciate what you're doing, the product is good but I don't understand why you've scrimped on presenting it in a professional manner. There are thousands of better themes out there if you're intent on using Wordpress which would present this information in a far more structured manner and make the whole thing gel a little better and give the user a far richer experience.

Just my opinion :)

Come Get Some Awesome ^^

A big thank you to everyone for their valuable comments. Seems to me that generally the idea works (and this has been bourne out at some recent family events).

As is always the case, get the first iteration of the website done and then build the list to improve things.

Thanks again.
