Anniversary Ideas

Hi all,

I need some help, me and the mrs have been togethor for 20 years in October (god that makes me feel old)(but only been married for 4) and i want to do something really nice. The trouble is what to do? Can anyone offer suggestions of nice romantic hotels, short break destinations, unusual ideas etc etc. I have always prided myself on giving very thoughtful prezzies in the past but ive shot myself in the foot really as this is the big one and the prezzie must reflect it.

Any ideas or help will be very much appreciated.

How far you willing to travel and how much you looking at spending.  I took my partner to Venice for a long week end, stayed on the Grand Canal, absolutely blew her away and worth every penny :)

If you want to spend the money New York makes a great weekend away. Closer to home Birmingham and the surrounding areas has a fair bit to offer.

What about taking in a show in London and making a weekend of it.

You have done the hard bit already by just REMEMBERING the anniversary, so I'm sure she will appreciate whatever idea you come up with.

I havent really put a budget on this, i'd like to just find the right place/location/event and try and work it to a sensible price. Having said that, i dont want to look like a tight ar*e - why are women so hard to impress??????????????

I might just buy her a card and be done with it lol.   

I am 40's something women and I would love it if my other half took me glamping!   It does look fun and romantic and what I like about this idea is that it's adventurous and probably out of the usual comfort zone's.

I have my eye on this glamping site for a potential visit it looks great fun.

Its not cheap, but its non stop and one of those lifetime things

If I took my partner glamping, she would be my ex quicker than you could say the word...... :)

All depends on taste and after 20years I'm sure you know what makes her tick and what buttons to push, like they said above its about the thought, but just try something different from the norm, god, starting to sound like a marriage counsellor now..... what ever you do I'm sure she'll love it!!

Thanks for the details Julie, i have to agree with David on this one as the mrs is more of a posh hotel girly rather than a tent type of person. On the plus side though i wouldnt have to worry about further anniversary presants if i booked it  .

Glamping does look like family fun though.

just on that note Mark, another thing we done was I took my partner for a night at the Ritz in London, the stage show Chicago and an evening meal at the Ivy, that again went down well and didnt cost the earth, £400 for the room at the Ritz, £110 for the tickets and £130 for the meal and wine at the Ivy, sitting there star spotting for the evening, then a romantic stroll back up picadilly to the Ritz

Scenery breathtaking, can't guarantee the weather though and this hotel is lovely, food out of this world and the hosts friendly and welcoming.
I have no connection to them other than being a regular customer ... and spending my wedding night here!

with New York you'll spend three hours queuing to get into the country.

Venice is a lovely place when it's not raining but (to me) eye-wateringly expensive prices for  hotels that are pretty basic unless you go to the lido. Everything else is great.

How about a short cruise with a suite? Most lines do 2-3 day taster cruises from the UK

Or  Le Manoir aux Quatre saisons gets great comments from people I know who have been

Or orient express day out

or 20 years of free online backup

We did Venice for our honeymoon and it was out of this world - you can grab a weekend at a 4 star for around £200 p.p

Or to be more traditional - 20th aniversary gift is China, with 4th Aniversary being Books. try and get a compliation of photos together of you both over the years and give her a picture book (photobox etc) and face on a mug! whilst away.
