4N Harlow is classified...

But more on that later... Another excellent meeting at 4N Harlow yesterday - a lively bunch yet again, and a great 40 Seconds round! It was kicked off by Chris 'Mr Pink' Ives of Utility Warehouse, who told us that he's more of a utility 'doctor', giving us a check up on the fitness of our utility bills. And speaking of bills and payments, Yvette Taylor of Cloud Bookkeeping informed us that as well as taking away the hassle of doing the books, she saved a client £11k! The moral of the story? If someone says they've paid you, double check your bank account!
We were delighted to be joined by experts in corporate video production - Alexander Brothers of SilverIsland TV and Jim Cliff of Aadvark Corporate Films shared their respective talents of helping businesses market themselves through video. And as an added bonus, Jim showed off his juggling skills! Hmmm...wonder if I should use a unicycle... We heard from Jim Cliff once again as he was our 4 Sighter this week. Jim has been on the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) so shared with us what really goes on when the censors decide what can/can't be shown on the big screen. If you've been to the movies recently, you'll have noticed that this independent body is celebrating its centenary, and is responsible for setting and enforcing guidelines around what is acceptable in cinema, video, trailers and even advertising. Examiners from both within and outside the film industry regularly watch the latest releases, and make sure that what is being shown complies with the all the different laws. Did you know, for instance, that it was illegal to show cruelty to animals long before it was illegal to show cruelty to children?! The main take-away was that it's always a balancing act between what is legal and safe to show, and what is the director's creative expression. Next meeting is Wednesday 4th July, so don't forget to book in, as we get booked up quite quickly! The 4 Sighter will be Neil Andrew of Flexible Training, telling us what we really need should know about First Aid. I know my skills are a bit rusty... If you have any friends or colleagues who want to grow their business by coming along to 4N Harlow and networking with a great bunch of business people, then contact me with their details, and I'll do the rest! |

Well done to Sarada for a really comprehensive start to this thread....you're a star! Jim's 4Sight was very informative and I had to wonder how you managed to watch so many films. Well done on giving us a unique insight into the world of censorship. Thanks to Alex, Nicola and Juber for the 1 to 1's......where have you been all my 4N life Nicola? Please invite those you know to our Harlow meeting....it's the place to be fortnightly on Wednesday mornings. Congrats to Nick for taking on the OA role and thanks to Paul for all his efforts.....wishing you all the best in the OA role at Redbridge. See you all next time, or maybe before on the 4N circuit. Cheers, Mr Pink |
