IMO the Chit Chat section has been ruined by pointless 'scrabble' type threads etc that should be moved to classics for those that wish to continue with them. They dominate the top of the page, and I lose the will to scroll down to any decent conversation that may be lurking at the bottom...

Ling, Les Kinch, Mike Bailey, Mikey Palmer, Paul Norman FTW!

Disagreement is the life-blood of a forum. Sometimes I get a bit lonely when I disagree with others, but then I guess there is always Kev Murphet!

I completely disagree Steve :-)

Actually each* of those 'characters' got way out of control imo, in an ideal world they may have been shown a yellow card and returned with a little bit more respect and finesse. However, there characters would not have allowed that return.

* actually looking at Steve's list not all of them were all out trolls

There's so many variables that really it's close to impossible to make any conclusions about the forum.

Use it to your advantage and don't moan.

Long enough to cover the subject material,

but short enough to keep things interesting."

I disagreed with Martin a few weeks ago.  I have mentioned on another non-business forum that just because you have a different view from a poster doesn't mean to say that you have a diametrically opposing view.

I think there are people who either:

  • Always disagree with everything and love online arguments
  • Always agree with everything cos they don't want to cause upset

A fair few of the former were booted off a while back, which I personally thought was a shame, but they were upsetting a lot of forum users.

I love a smattering of controversy but the problem with the ones who took it to far, is not only content wi showing how clever they believed they were.

They were impacting on people's business and also ability to be effective.

If that's your thing you can find the hateful venom on Linked In now.

4N is a better place as a result. But yea we could do with the odd pub fight/cabaret

The "games" are being moved right now... Let the pub fight commence.

Could make it a "Games" in general forum games / video game chat etc...

I dont think there is a need to start pub fights just for the sake of starting a debate, we will end up with those big on going battles again and no one wins with them (no matter how entertaining some of them have been)

I also think that people congratulating others on having good ideas is out of nothing but the best of intentions i.e. friendship. Just every now and again a true friend has to say "I think thats wrong, have you thought of this and that". The idea is not to kill off their idea but to identify weaknesses so the OP can adjust their plan and make it stronger. These are the sort of debates where the OP and everyone reading it can learn something and even make their business stronger.

BTW - I'm totally guilty of speed reading posts and just adding my "Thats a great idea, best of luck with it" responses.

I love the forum and you know what's happened to it? Normality is what's happened to it. It's a community, people come, people go, there are people you like and people you don't like. There are regulars and there are those who just dip in and out.

I've been on here almost five years now and the regularity of this topic amuses me.

I think so much of society in general has got to a stage where it is frowned on to challenge or potentially upset anyone. Everyone is conditioned to spend so much time worrying about being discriminatory that they are either scared to disagree or don't know how to.

I am a known for speaking my mind and so have upset people in the past bu disagreeing with them so I tend to just keep my opinions to myself........apart from now Open Mouthed Smile.

I love the forum but don't use it enough due to lack of time. I'd love an Android app so that I could keep on here when I'm stuck on a ferry (which is often

I disagree entirely with this. 100% codswallop. Tongue Out

Seriously though, this is a very good point. I think people fail to see the distinction between criticising an idea, and criticising a person. You can disagree quite strongly with someone and still remain friends, and IMO you owe it to the people you know and care about to be frank and honest with them. Nothing good ever came of people being 'yes men' and agreeing for the sake of not causing controversy.

@Stef, I think if you look back every year, around this time you will see the same question pop up.

This time is a transition period for a lot of businesses. They have either been dead waiting for the summer to start or like me, busy and waiting for the seasonal slump. As a result those that are now starting to get busy start posting less and those that starting to see seasonal slack start to post more.

A lot of people see it as a drop in posts, but I think its a bit of a seasonal shift
