Or take a look at Xero which has some different features and is a doddle to use. With any product always make sure it meets your business requirements.

Agree totally - both Xero and KashFlow have their benefits and drawbacks.

Thanks for the recommend Gareth.

Agree with both of the above...

... was really pleased to spend the afternoon at the KashFlow offices this week to see how they operate on the ground. I was pleasantly surprised to see a strong support team - I now understand why support queries are answered so efficiently. Also a chance to see what developments are in the pipeline

just signed up to Kashflow for the 60 day trial through a local accountant. So much easier to use than Sage - I now have time to actually run my business :)

What are generally regarded the upsides and downsides to each of both these packages.

We use Xero in the office, yet Kashflow send me bribes.

I'm torn. Hahaha

To be honest there is not a great deal of difference.

I personally prefer KashFlow though. It is generally a much easier interface.

Hi Graham and Phil   - it would be great to hear more specifics about what you like in Kashflow compared to Xero.

We're Kashflow fans, but some accountants I respect come down in favour of Xero, which I know little about, other than it's widely well thought of and has gone down the (possibly controversial) route of allowing integration with your actual bank account to automate more of the inputs.

Xero integration is well worth having if it works with your bank.

Both are just glorified Bank/Cash analysis packages without much flexibility in report writing or integration, like Quickbooks used to be, but both are more then adaquate for most 4Ners I have met, ie  simple service based businesses with no need for complex reporting.

I actually disagree with those statements.

I think the Xero over-emphasis on the bank integration is expensive (for the subscription element)  and over emphasises the importance of the banking element.

The reporting element, and drill down functionality is superb (but I see that Sage 2013 will have much improved drill down capability)

Certainly KashFlow needs some customisation to get the best out of it

I think that depends on your business really Graham, if most of your expenses are paid to the same small group of suppliers bytransfer DD or SO and most of your income is from a limited group of regular customers or from cash sales then the bank integration is a big help.
