phone call to restaurant gave me a reality check

Good Evening, I recently rang a restaurant to book a table for my daughters birthday. The girl on the phone asked me how many people were coming and I started making jokes about my in laws and how I didn't like them and some other stuff which wasnt relevent but I thought I was being funny. When she asked for my name she realised that I was the business owner of Button Bashing and that her daughter had taken part in one our active gaming clubs. I feel I let myself down because she could of come away from that phone call with any old impression of me and maybe might tell other parents about my behaviour. I know its not a massive thing but it just shows that when you do run a business you have to always wary about what you say and do. Please share some expierences Richard Tweed |

Hi Richard, I know How you feel, However I am sure that when she meets you and gets to know you she'll feel differently. Its Difficult to get lasting Impressions over the phone & I am sure she may well have done worse herself. Dave |

I often get road rage with bad drivers, so I've had to remove my branding from my car in case one of my clients sees me having a rant! |

Wouldn't it be better to leave the branding on your car and remember it's there whenever you're tempted to go off on one? |

Richard - my wife is a primary school teacher. She's always been wary about going out to restaurants anywhere near the catchment area of her school. Last thing you need is one of the pupil's parents at the next table, especially if you're going with a few friends. It works the other way round though too. We were once on the tram coming back from a Manchester derby (glad to say United had won that one). Plenty of United and city fans on there all together and, unsurprisingly, there's plenty of noise. There's a few blokes in city colours across from us - suddenly one of them shuts up when he spots Gill and realises she's his lad's teacher. He's then all polite speaking to her (much to the amusement of his mates). |

Branded vehicles make better drivers. Also my son, who's a teacher, has to give notice to the school when he's playing in charity cricket matches where the schoolchildren might be, in case they see him with a pint after the match! |
