Make A Guess

Last year I bought me old mum a Laptop, {she's 80 odd and lives about 90 miles away} worst thing I ever did, she was constantly on the phone several times a day with ''how do i do this'' how do i do that'' doing my brain in she was, bless her. Anyway one day she phones me up and says '' how do i stop all these advert thingies popping up i cant stop them'' Jokingly I say they are called pop ups, you must have been looking at porn sites, I will see what I can do when I come down at the weekend I say. That weekend I visited her it was all fixed, how did you sort that out then I say, well she says there is a nice man who has a leaflet in Community centre where I go twice a week and he fixes computors, all the pensioners use him, so i phoned him up and he only lives local too,he popped round and fixed it in a couple of minutes and also set me up email and showed me how to send emails. So now she has a local friendly PC guy,she doesn't pester me daily with phone calls, just bombards me with emails. So Martin a leaflet drop at the local church groups, community centres and the like may pay dividends with a pensioner fanbase. Good luck with the leaflet drop anyway. Kev |

Hi Martin, can I ask where most of your new customers come from at the moment? I am just reviewing my markketing strategy and need to decide the most cost effective method |

Response rates are low for first leaflet drop, they do increase if repeated and your name is seen with other initiatives. My estimate would be 5 as this has gone lets say 7 |

Great one Kev. Helen, no shortcuts I am afraid. About six years of very hard work, this is what is starting to pay off. Recomendations, my old customer base. Adwords, you better have the right keywords a good website and money in the bank to do that one. It is working well for me at the moment. You will also need to put in a load of unpaid hours to build your biz. You are not me, so what works for me,my not work for you. You need to change all the time and know your market. My Biz is nothing like it started out at six years ago, and there are changes going on as I write this post. Just a few months ago if I had not changed, I would be giving up about now. The last 5 weeks or so have been mad, so much work, plus I am also getting some work from 4N. The forum does not bring me work I just like it. Sorry not to be more up beat to you, but that would be very wrong of me. There are loads of people in the IT Trade, they come and go with the wind, but they can hack away at your bottom line. So many who have no idea what they are doing. I do not know it all, but I am good at what I do. Best of luck work at it hard, I still am after nearly six years, and I still have a long way to go. You will need a lot of drive. Good luck. |

OK Bob, only time will tell. This type of marketing is risky but as you can see I do not give up easy. I will keep you all posted good or bad.

I also tried giving free talks at community centres. I had a load of fun and got to chat with some very nice folks. Didn't get any direct work out of it. Still I'd love to do it again.

Brian, yes I have done most of that to. Multipule ways to market, some pay off faster than others. I have been away fo 24 hours, and the calls that came in while I was away was an old customer from years ago. And I think the other one comes from a forum, not this one. |

Stacks of time for the other 49 to come along. That or the leaflets can be found under the third hedge, second C road past the pub. Gary |
