Typical hard-sell beller at one of those "only open networking" gigs - interrupted a conversation I was having with someone else, asked me what I do, and before I finished saying "web designer" he shot back with "I'm going to stop you there, I've spoken to 3 "web designers" (with air quotes, perhaps suggesting that he doesn't believe such a thing exists) tonight, and it's highly unlikely you have the contacts I need so I'll not waste any more of your or my time" The look on my face must have told him how pissed off I was, so he was kind enough to advise me that to make the most of networking I should adopt the same hard-line stance. I've worked with Ancestry, Boots, Millies Cookies, Autoglass and so on and so on - guessing those aren't in the realm of "contacts he needs". |

I got told by a 4Ner to quit 4N because ''my target customers are not in 4N'', when in fact, just prior to that I had won 3 really decent clients through one 4Ner and afterward landed a fairly large client who is also a 4Ner. |
