I get loads of letters from Google with a 'voucher' inside for £50 worth of free adwords. Has anyone had any success with this??

Yes, just take some time to setup your account properly or you'll piss away the £50 in no time. Think negative keywords.

Negative keywords???

Let's say someone searches for "accountancy help portsmouth" - do you want them to click your ad? Probably, yes?

Consider this:

Let's say someone searches for "free accountancy help portsmouth" - do you want them to click your ad?

Keeping things simple, you can exclude certain keywords that make your advert appear.

Here's another:

"accountancy jobs portsmouth" - do you want those people to be clicking your ads?

so, two negative keywords could be free and jobs.  Make sense?

Cos' what you're wanting is the people who want to buy your services clicking through! And not people who don't ?

Hi Sam

You can have a go at Adwords yourself, but it really is false ecomomy. The amount of time you would have to spend to fully understand adwords and get the best possible results simply doesn't justify the amount you save. Adwords is incredibly simple to set up and even easier to get it wrong and waste your budget.

OK so if it is a free £50 voucher why not? Because if you don't do it properly, then like so many other small businesses that 'have a go'. You'll burn the budget in 5 minutes for no enquiries and then have convinced yourself that adwords doesn't work for your business.

I'm not saying adwords will work for your business. Every business is different, your website is different from the accountants you'd compete with and this is a huge factor, as is the way you convert any enquiries you get into business. But if you are going to try, get some professional help and give yourself the best chance of success. Give me a call or message me if you'd like to discuss further, I think you'll be surprised how little it costs to do this properly.

These £50 vouchers are appearing in lots of magazines now (it used to be in just .Net and Web Designer), so you can buy these £50 vouchers for £6 by buying a magazine.

However they are limited to one per credit / debit card number. I managed to get 4 vouchers working. Its a bit of a fuss but it makes a low cost way to experiment with AdWords

Unless Google twig what you're doing and refuse you future accounts. Really worth it?

I have an unlimited supply of tyhem for clients, but I don't use more than one each it really isn't worth risking annoying Google.
