Wordpress site speed - ideas?

I am struggling to get my website responding quicker, it is really slow to load. Not sure if I need to move the hosting to a different provider (with TSO at moment) or whether there are any plugins I could use to improve things?

Any ideas?

Dave

WordPress is always going to be slower. Looks like you already have some optimisations in place and you are not massively behind the curve, however TSO still use some servers with hdd rather than ssd and can have high contention rates. Some themes can be code heavy too.

I hear you Rick. There are a lot of myths built up about WordPress being too slow or not secure. I think its because it's always been accessible to non-technicals, who expect everything to work straight out of the box. Then they weigh it down with too many speed sapping plugins and 5MB images

There are 5 or 6 things you can do to speed up your site, but they will only get you so far. Once you have done these, the usual issue is you are trying to drive a Ferrari with a 2CV engine. Invest a bit more money with professional hosting and even a Frankenstein site will speed up!

Hi David,

I've just had a look at your site and I see what you mean! I don't think the video is helping matters, and yes, the quality of your hosting will have a big effect. You should also look at optimising the images. Did you build the site yourself David?

Have you tried using Google Page Speed Insights to identify the problems?

Another good tool is https://tools.pingdom.com/

Hope this helps a bit,

Penny

Hmm it's hard to know exactly why your WordPress site might be slow Usually lots of reasons! Maybe you can look at this link and see if the tips help? Also some tools there which could likely tell you what the likely problem(s) could beI've used some of the tools in the past and I could instantly make changes that sped up my site.

Number 1 on that list should be "Choose a better host than 1and1".
