WordPress mutisite and domain mapping

I'm looking at creating a WP multisite and mapping a number of separate domains to it. Anybody got any tips or pitfalls to tell me about before I take the plunge. I have seen that there are a number of domain mapping plugis on offer. Do you have a recommendation?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Steve,

Can you explain what you mean by "multisite"? WordPress has the capability to be installed in multiple locations on the same system/domain, and use the same database (just different table names); but WordPress can also be installed multiple times on the same system/domain whilst each one would technically be a single WordPress instance (with separate database connections).

Grant. :)

Hi Steve

I've used the plugins from WPMU DEV mainly for multisite domain mapping, but have still often run into issues with SSL, and have converted several of them back to standard (sinlge) site now.

Thank you all for your responses, including Barry Tolson who responded direct. WPMU DEV looks to be favoured.

Good on Barry but, WPMUDev plugins are notoriously bad.
I'd avoid if possible.

Hi Steve,  did you manage to sort this out?  I recently did this for my own business website.  I converted a single site into a multiple sub-domains and went SSL at the same time. Give me a shout if you want have a chat about it.

Thanks,

Steve
