The more we look into the UKOM issue the more we uncover, and more convinced we are that removing them from the network is in the best interests of our network and our members.

Without going into to too much detail we have found that what they say and what they do have been a long way apart. Repeated assurances have come to mean the very opposite.

Not only have many of our team members been targeted, destabilising our network, but the business offering appears to be changing rapidly and the business model is unproven.

Before getting involved in any business opportunity ask yourself a few basic questions.

  1. How long has this business been operating?
  1. Has the business model been proven to work?
  1. What am I actually getting for my money?
  1. If I spent a similar amount of money setting up on my own, what could I get for that?

An update today as a result of us removing UKOM from 4Networking, there's been further casualties, as I said before there are no winners in this.

The story so far, UK Office Manager was a 4Ner with a business which, as was explained to me, undertook outbound calls; it was also a concierge/out bound call service. The MD Phil, assured me that UKOM “will not be doing any networking events” - and has gone out of his way to assure me and my directors repeatedly that UKOM creates no issues of conflict for 4N.

I've since discovered UKOM “Licensees” have licenses to run face2face networking events in their packages. So on a technicality its true UKOM will not be doing any networking events but there licensees will.

Below is an email blast that went out recenty promoting face2face Swansea

29th October - Face To Face Networking South Wales

Makes networking a more personal affair. Offering the chance to network at a business dinner where each course you change places and have new potential clients to speak to. The Face2Face events generate a lively and enthusiastic atmosphere, with over 50 attendees at each event. The venue for this event is still to be confirmed. Please email sue.berry@ukofficemanager.biz for more details.

3 weeks ago at the last f2f networking dinner, it was announced that the organisation are going into breakfast networking groups. 4Ners in attendence that night, confirmed this.

This has since been denied by the Directors; apparently it was more of a talk, than an announcement. Regardless.

In now transpires that several of our 4N Area Leaders and members are either “Non-executive Directors” or licensees of UKOM, some of them will be surprised to learn about the f2f deal as they have not been informed of it.

Disappointing on so many fronts, 4N are guilty of nothing, I personally helped UKOM get a foothold around the network based on what I was told the business was. An outbound telesales operation.

That all changed when word reached 4NHQ of 4Ners being hit with either hardcore, high pressure sell or a charm offensive at 'seminars' with licensees being encouraged to pay upwards of 15k to secure a patch. At which point we felt, we had duty of care to members within the network to do something about it.

The licensees have bought a concept, no track record, no exisiting business; all they've bought is the lure of telephone number revenues on the way to there final destination of selling the business. Its been sold in as certainty.

The Non-execs the promise of all the specialist field work from all licensees

The only thing licensees have bought, is a convincingly sold concept that they'll make big money in excess of anything they've earned before.

Everyone involved with UK Office Manager in terms of licensees or non-executive Director have been removed from the 4Network.

These unfortunately include some of my friends

Margaret McKenzie – Entrega

Tracey Segar - UK OM

Sue Berry – Enabling Work

There may well be further casualities over the forthcoming days, no further post will be issued on this though.

I also want to make it clear that the 4N door remains open for all of these people should their position change in the future.

So in a nutshell, UKOM has been trading of the good reputations of 4Networkers, by offering non-exec roles and the promise of massive amounts of yet to be seen national work. With the plan of switching over a whole portion of the network, its members and opinion formers over to UKOM.

The whole focus of this has been to avoid more 4N members buying into what the 4N board believe to be an unworkable and non-sustainable business model.

To put this descion into perspective after 28 months since 4Networking began, only 2 companies have been removed from the offline breakfast network. UKOM is the 2nd. Its not something we do lightely.

The above was written in order to put the record straight as to our reasoning, as there had be lots of ill informed chinese whispers going around.

I hope finally we can put this behind us and I'd like to think no further commenting on UKOM will be needed to be issued from 4N.

nteresting reading, interesting names, not who you'd expect. Are they equally guilty of working behind the scenes to destabilise 4N or simply victims?

I would like to think they are simply victims. I am shocked! What a loss of really good people. I truly hope they don't get hurt, none of them deserve to.

Whilst I have at times showed considerable frustration with 4N, I think that Brad and the team are dealing with this in a reasonable and professional manner.

Whether or not it is acceptable to have competitive networking opportunities within the 4N group is not the point it is the deliberate misinformation by UKOM leadership to 4N that is probelmatic.

I am all for a competitive environment but would think long and hard before spending large amounts of cash on 'buying' a territory, or any franchise operation without looking at whether the investment is for access to opportunity you will have to make happen, rather than a proven repeatable model.

For me, the thing that is so rotten about all of this is that 4N were effectively a client of UKOM, who have seemingly abused their position, by utilising 4N's client database for their own ends.

I am both surprised and disappointed by this, especially as I was approached by UKOM with regards to growing my own business as an 'ally' of UKOM.

For the record, I am impressed at the professional and courteous way in which this very difficult subject has been handled by 4N.

I'm certain at least some of them are innocent casualties. Let's just hope they can come back into the 4N fold once the dust has settled.

I know that the above named people will be reading this thread (some of which I count as friends) so can I appeal to them to get independent business advise on the UKOM scheme. I believe certain aspects of the claims by UKOM are flawed and they should seek legal advice to find an exit route ASAP.

Although we supply to 4Networking this is an independent view based on my business experience.

TelePA were approached by Phil Coley of UK Office Manager "to see how we may be able to cooperate" however UK Office Manager postponed our meeting twice because of my specific request to have something about their aims and plans in writing first, because I wanted to see how they were positioning themselves.

I'm terribly upset to think that Margaret MacKenzie, surely one of 4Ns greatest ambassadors, is being removed from the 4N network because of being linked to UKOfficeManager, as I had so much trouble getting anything in writing from them I expect she did too, so conflicts of interest shouldn't be assumed to have been obvious.

Sorry, further to UK Office Manager licensees, I just re-read Brad's mail which states:

I also want to make it clear that the 4N door remains open for all of these people should their position change in the future.

That is fair enough I'd say !!!!

Also approached by UKOM but no result when we asked for a meeting.

Picture I'm seeing build up is those who were too open (naive perhaps) were given the full come-on and those expressing an interest in discussing how the model worked were given a wide berth!
