I've just discovered how dangerous I would be if I allowed myself to have a credit card...

So, I've just been indulging in retail therapy on my lunch hour and to say the least, I knew how much I was allowed to spend so I stuck with that, but oh my god if I allowed myself to get a credit card I'd have easily spent £200 if not more in this one shop on clothes.....eeeek.
The worse thing is, I'm even tempted to go and get a credit card from my bank but I know I'd get myself in to big big trouble if I did. *...must stay away from shops and credit card offers...* |

Liz, you are a woman; it goes with the territory! /tempted to edit to read "young lady" but won't at risk of depressing oneself! |

I only use my (personal) credit card for booking flights and holidays, or anything else that'd benefit from the free insurance (also got a direct debit set up each month to pay the balance in full). Got into way too much trouble with them when I was a lot younger. |

See...this isn't helping, it's just tempting me more in to getting one. I got my new bank card through the other day coz the other is due to expire and Mark was instantly accusing me of getting a credit card but I hadn't, but then does that suggest maybe I am predictibly (is that a word?) dangerous? lol I'd be smart with it....I'd pay it off straight away to avoid charges....!! xxx |

Unless you *really* need it - such as for work travel expenses - don't get one. |

Someone told me in some conference yesterday that 2 million households are paying their mortgages with credit cards at the mo. Sounded like BS. Is it? |

I'd never be stupid enough to do that, but I guess times are desperate for some... |

Credit cards were how I financed my twenties and I wouldn't change any of it. However, had I not been made redundant twice with decent payouts - I'd probably still be paying them off, so certainly not recommending it. |

Used wisely - you'll manage it but set a budget so that you don't overdo it... |

I spend around £1.5k - £2.5k/month on credit card, paid of by directdebit each month. Ridiculous credit limit imo of around £7k 1. Nice to have as a buffer if needed short term 2. Cash back is worth £200 a year ish 3. big ticket items (£100+) carry insurance if the company goes bust Responsibility with them is soo important As a student I got one with a £250 limit (woohoo) - went out with mates I paid the bill, and everyone gave me cash, that didn't get paid off until my Mum found the statement ! |
