Say No to 0845 and 0870 numbers
| Posted: 18th May 2009 - 14:42 Quote | |
Just thought I'd let you know that theres a website www.saynoto0870.com that provides free alternatives to the all the 0845 and 0844 and 0870 numbers. I have an all inclusive call and internet package but these packages never include the above numbers for free and I've noticed they have been costing me quite a bit each month! Ive managed to find free alternatives for all my business and personal bills, including the banks etc. |

Sorry just to clarify if you have an all inclusive phone package then the above alternative numbers on www.saynoto0870.com will be free as they start with 02 and 01. If you dont have an all inclusive call plan then the alternative numbers will still be signifcantly cheaper to use. |

Good call Karen, but for the record there is one provider that includes 0845 and 0870 within their free call allowance - admittedly for domestic customers only. |

I have an 0845 number and I highly recommend them for those likely to move premises or home-office. You can always tell people what the underlying number is so that they can benefit from other tariffs. The other reason I use an 0845 number is that my business is not particularly location sensitive and some people choose not to call just because I don't have a Cardiff/Bristol/Taunton/Bath/Swindon prefix - something the 0845 number neutralises. I do use the sayno... website for phoning the big companies as they do tend to put you in a message queue rather alot! |

Also, I think, 03 are now local landlines so treated the same way as 01, 02. |

Im looking at getting an 0845 number myself as I can see the benefits of having one for the business (but giving people the cheaper numbers too) but from a personal cost point of view when we are calling the banks, our utility suppliers etc I'm usually stuck on hold for ages and because I make a lot of calls in my job its useful that I've now managed to find myself 18 alternative numbers that wont cost me. |

Say no to 0845 is the name of the website to save money when calling these numbers, not saying 'say no' to getting an 0845 as a business |

Nick, our gliding club got an 03 number as they are geographic and thus in the inclusive calls allowance. Cheaper for people to ring than an 0845 and we can still route it anywhere. We get an incoming call allowance and then pay for any calls routed once the allowance is used up. Costs about £3 a month for our minimal package.
-break- Karen As a tightwad, even 0845 numbers put me off calling. I'd go for 03. At the moment 0845 can be free to you as the punter is picking up the cost. More telcos will offer free 0845 and 0870 but someone will have to pick up the bill in the end.

Ive managed to find free alternatives for all my business and personal bills, including the banks etc. This is now inaccurate info. Superceded by recent Ofcom directives. 0845 is local rate and I think so is 0870 ... and they are part of many call packages. I could be wrong - in which case I am sure some telecoms members here would post to correct. But the public is slow to catch on and I put up an 0870 number on some of my websites to discourage the "tyre kickers" from phoning up and interrupting my day.
