I use the website for 'research'. For example if I want to target accountants in Redditch for my next marketing campaign, yell.com is useful to get me a list of targets.
Regarding the advert on yell.com, this does work, but only for our home customer market, not our business to business to business market. However what I would say is that the yell.com advert isn't working as well as it used to, but this could be because of external factors.
Hi Simon - I took out an ad with Yell.com back in January and at the same time placed a listing on FreeIndex.
To date, I've had over 10x more traffic / enquiries via FreeIndex than Yell.com and over 50% of my site traffic comes from generic search engine traffic.
I won't be renewing my Yell.com ad - there's simply no cost benefit in having it. Google and then FreeIndex are both far superior in terms of driving site traffic and both are completely free (I do my own SEO)
I work for Yell.com and was interested to see Simon's initial question and the subsequent comments relating to usage of our site. Yes, consumers do very much use Yell.com to find local businesses and services and usage shows strong growth. In June this year, more than 10 million users visited the site - an increase of more than 15% on the same month in the previous year.
And independent research shows that 94% of Yell.com users find the information they're looking for (Saville Rossiter-Base 2007-08).
I am still wondering if anyone actually uses yell.com to find suppliers ?
Do many of you adveritse on yell.com ?
This is fact finding mission for me, just short replies are cool if you do not have much time to spare but your thoughts would be great, Thank you
