Hi Simon,

I use the website and advertise on the site.

I use the website for 'research'. For example if I want to target accountants in Redditch for my next marketing campaign, yell.com is useful to get me a list of targets.

Regarding the advert on yell.com, this does work, but only for our home customer market, not our business to business to business market. However what I would say is that the yell.com advert isn't working as well as it used to, but this could be because of external factors.

I hope this gives you food for thought.

Thanks.

Hi Simon - I took out an ad with Yell.com back in January and at the same time placed a listing on FreeIndex.

To date, I've had over 10x more traffic / enquiries via FreeIndex than Yell.com and over 50% of my site traffic comes from generic search engine traffic.

I won't be renewing my Yell.com ad - there's simply no cost benefit in having it. Google and then FreeIndex are both far superior in terms of driving site traffic and both are completely free (I do my own SEO)

PR: wait... I: wait... L: wait... LD: wait... I: wait... wait... Rank: wait... Traffic: wait... Price: wait... C: wait...

Hi Simon,

I have to agree with Gary. I also do my own SEO and FreeIndex has given me greater results than Yell - and its free!!!! :)

Not the same, but connected, we had 2 local directories plonked outside our door the other day.
They went straight into the recycle bin, never even took them out of the wrapper.

99% of local authorities now accept them for recycling, so you can put them in a paper recycling bank or use your council's paper doorstep collection.

Visit the Yellow Pages Directory Recycling Scheme online to find out where you can recycle your Yellow Pages directories.

Lets hope you're not in the 1% that don't eh Lee

I suggest also your money is better spent elsewhere! Besides Google is an easier name to remember.

The only time I ever use Yell.com/Yellow Pages is when I'm looking for a Take-out number . Otherwise it's google all the way...

I work for Yell.com and was interested to see Simon's initial question and the subsequent comments relating to usage of our site. Yes, consumers do very much use Yell.com to find local businesses and services and usage shows strong growth. In June this year, more than 10 million users visited the site - an increase of more than 15% on the same month in the previous year.

And independent research shows that 94% of Yell.com users find the information they're looking for (Saville Rossiter-Base 2007-08).

Regards

Jon

Jon stats are great from your perspective, but word of mouth anecdotal evidence is probably a whole lot more powerful for most of your perspective punters when making a purchasing call.

I was with you guys for 12 months, awesomely drafted premium ad and got 1 call.
