Upon investigation, it appears that unless you are taking oodles of money each month from customers, banks (or at least Barclays) won't let you set up a Direct Debit scheme, only a Standing Order.... Unfortunately some of our major clients only work with DD's but then I found a site (the same principal as Paypal etc) that allow you to have a virtual direct debit scheme for a small commission... so I thought I would see if any 4N'ers offer this service to customers (or know someone who does)??? Hi Phil We use Premium Credit and or Close Brother (iprompt) for all our clients DD. not sure if they can help or assist?

Phil I use the PayPal recurring payment system, it was trialled in the UK two years ago and I was one of the only takers of that particular deal. I don't know if its still available [you need paypal pro manager] but that allows you to run DD's and ad-hoc payments off the same accounrt - brilliant little system and it also has the PDQ service which you can use for mass pay or single pay. Phil, I'll e-mail you some info on our scheme. I use it for 90% of our clients and it's soooooooo much simpler than CC or chasing your tail for cheques. |

Thank you for all the suggestions although to expand on my answer to Dennis, with a £350 set up fee, handling fees, restrictions, commissions and then the time for it to reach my account, all of this added up means that it is an expensive option. Money is worth saving too and I don't want to be seeing our hard-earned income going into the pockets of Bankers for the luxury of people paying us!! I will investigate the other options but keep coming with the ideas, thank you...

Phil, I'd be interested in details of the Virtual DD scheme you mentioned. Always interested in cutting overheads. I should mention the DD scheme we use has a £60 cash-back offer built into the set-up so it's actually under £300 which I believe is still less than the High Street Banks. And I think Paypal is still seen as the 'cheap' option when it comes to business use. Look forward to receiving any other scheme details. |
