Are there any film scenes which affected you to the point where you never could shake it off?

I'm not easily scared (and I like horror movies) but there were a few scenes that gave me the permanent collywobbles. Here's a brief rundown:

Salem's Lot: Vampires knocking at the bedroom window. I've never been able to sleep with the curtains open since.

An American Werewolf In London: expanded my window issues with the scene where David opens the curtains in the hospital room and evil masked monsters burst through and kill him (in a dream). Now I can have the curtains closed, nor can I open them.

An American Werewolf in London (again): I can't get off the tube at Tottenham Court Road. If you've seen it, you'll know why. I also have werewolf issues, and have turned down many a potential house because 'it looks like werewolves might live near it'. (Yes, I'm obsessed)

......and yours?

I watched Salem's Lot when I was probably way to young - that scene took a lot of getting over.

Others include:

Don't Look Now - the ending.

Spoorloos (The Vanishing) - the ending. I've never seen the Hollywood remake, but apperently it's got a happy ending, so no lasting impact there then!

How wierd - totally aggree with Stacey. Watched Nightmare of Elm street when i was 6 ( older brothers etc ). Bad idea. That was creepy in its day.

Was not a a happy chappy trying to go to sleep for a good while afterwards.

Must admit also - watched AW in London shortly afterwards and the curtains scene scared me to death as well.

Horror movies are much more fun where your a kid.

I must be weird and disturbed, I've seen all of those movies and more (when I was a kid horror movies and their history was a favourite subject of mine) but none of them really bother me at all. In fact often I watch them out of interest and then wonder why I bothered as most are total rubbish with no content, no quality and no style whatsoever. I can't think of any that have made me think twice.

I dont think the same now though lol. Chucky is shocking, even nightmare on elm street is quite cack now.

One that did freak me out a bit was 1408... although all depends on whether I sit alone, with the lights off and its night time.. I usually have all lights on, doors open, curtains and windows and only watch during the day where you can sense real human presence around you.

Same applies to scary games!

The only horror films that I normally watch are spoofs. I can only remember being terrified once, as a young child, watching a TV puppet version of Beauty and the Beast. It wasn't the Beast that frightened me - it was the extremely ugly handsome prince...

I can't remember what the film was (totally blanked it out due to trauma I think!) but there is one I saw when young that ends (?) with a woman buried alive in a coffin - totally freaked me out ever since.

I also have the window/curtain thing Belinda - especially on my own at night (not helped by an ex-bf who knew about this and scared the bejezuz out of me one night!)

What a bad man! That's why he's an ex :(

I had an ex who once tried to scare me like that. We'd been sitting in his house with a group of friends talking ghost stories all night, so I was all wound up anyway. When my taxi arrived, I said my goodbyes at the door, which was at the side of the house. Unknown to me, he went back in the house ,climbed out of the front window and at the moment I reached the garden gate, grabbed me silently from behind. In panic, I whirled around, punched him in the face and ran off to the safety of the taxi, still not knowing who it was who had grabbed me.

He didn't try it again!

That's got a touch of Spoorloos about it!

Dont watch a lot of horror, tend to find them very same-ish but there have been a few that have made me jump.

I remember watching Carrie for the first time. Sat there towards the end thinking it was an "okt" film. The nice gentle music was playing and the plot had all been tied up, so I presumed the credits were about to role. As I got to the TV to turn it off, those bloody hands came out of the ground.

Never jumped so much in my life, I think I may even let out a bit of a girly scream

The Shining first time scared the hell out of me as did The Hitcher, I prefer more subtle psycological horror rather than gore, that said the Evil Dead series is a joy to behold especially 2
