I also have the window/curtain thing Belinda - especially on my own at night (not helped by an ex-bf who knew about this and scared the bejezuz out of me one night!)
What a bad man! That's why he's an ex I had an ex who once tried to scare me like that. We'd been sitting in his house with a group of friends talking ghost stories all night, so I was all wound up anyway. When my taxi arrived, I said my goodbyes at the door, which was at the side of the house. Unknown to me, he went back in the house ,climbed out of the front window and at the moment I reached the garden gate, grabbed me silently from behind. In panic, I whirled around, punched him in the face and ran off to the safety of the taxi, still not knowing who it was who had grabbed me. He didn't try it again!
Sounds like the same guy I think there is something in built in men that they will try to scare their girlfriends - perhaps it is so they can then be all manly and save them/comfort them? However, they forget the slight fact that they are also the ones that did the scaring! The final straw with that same ex was when I was in Australia - I have a massive phobia of fish (yep, fish, go figure) but was working on a boat and decided I should conquer my fear. I was snorkelling and all was going fine until the bastard threw bits of bread all over me and this swarm of fish covered me - I have never moved so fast in all my life! |

Steve - yeah, that was a bit creepy wasn't it? Haven't ever had the desire to watch The Ring 2! The Dark is a bit similar... |

The Ring and Salems Lot ones previously mentioned i completely agree with. The Shining is one of my favourite films ever and was very scary the first time I saw it (again maybe because I was younger) I also found Gothika quite a jumpfest and creepy - I have a thing about mentalists anyway so that may have had something to do with it |

I remember watching Carrie for the first time. Sat there towards the end thinking it was an "okt" film. The nice gentle music was playing and the plot had all been tied up, so I presumed the credits were about to role. As I got to the TV to turn it off, those bloody hands came out of the ground. Never jumped so much in my life, I think I may even let out a bit of a girly scream
Thought exactly the same thing. I was round at my girlfriends house and it was about 11pm, left to go home knowing the light on the stairs to where I lived on the second floor had a habit of not being on, so I think I flew up two flights of stairs singing my heart out so if something was going to touch me my singing would scare them too. Other than that The Exorcist, Omen and Amityville leave me feeling uncomfortable. |

Sticking to the Stephen King theme then you have to include Pet Semetary - particularly when the kid comes back and gets Herman Munster Carrie was excellent but I think I must be the only person who hated the Jack Nicholson version of The Shining, especially the performance by Shelley Duval |

Nah, I think it was based on our infamous serial backpacker murderer Ivan Milatt. We need more backpacker murderers around some parts of Sydney late on Friday nights, as the feral globe rats are out of control and ripping shit up. |

I'm a complete wimp when it comes to scary films - I've never got over the shower scene in Psycho. So since then, the only one that has made me jump was Jurassic Park! |

oh I forgot about this one, that scared me so much... I hate in horror films when people move creakily and disjointed, cracking and twisting .... cold chill down spine just thinking about it. |

I have to admit that the end of Carrie made me jump too, but this thread reminds me of the time I took my (then) fiancee to see Nightmare on Elm Street at the cinema in Manchester. There is a scene where the lead character does the old 'false wake' up routine, thinks that she's fine and then Freddie jumps up from the side of the bed. For whatever reason, I must have been looking at the exact spot on the screen where he appeared from and registered it a fraction of a second ahead of everyone else in the (full) cinema. I did a little jump in my seat, but was on the way down when everyone else reacted. I guess it's something to do with the group dynamic but the reaction was hugely magnified and bizzare to watch. Some people actually jumped out of their seats. |

Has anyone seen the film Feed? (I think it's Australian) It's not so much scary as sick and twisted (seriously so!) but I didn't sleep properly or ages. I still can't hear someone say the words 'feed me' without shuddering.... |
