Business names are very important, however...

Good domain names have all been registered and unavailable. This seem have a great impact on names of new businesses, my mate who just set up his company couldn't be so serious about business names any more, because he simply can't get a reasonable domain.

"We found it really difficult to find the right outsourcing partner. We tried various companies from various Parts of the world, who promised excellent communication, highly skilled staff, solid robust development and at the right price. This was vital to allow us to remain competitive in the market. Dilitech were the only company that came through on all accounts with flying colours. Keep it up." -- Managing director of a UK firm.

Connected to the issue of business names is of course the issue of brands- have a look at my post today on this forum '7 Top Tips'- the importance and value of a business name and brand cannot be overstated! Thanks

I think it's definitely important. From an online prospective, a business name which encompasses what the company does is advantageous for SEO. And generally speaking a company name should be fitting to what the company does, for example SpeedCom might not be the best name for a vets practice.

Speaking as a Numerologist ...the ancients used to say that when you name something you make it sacred, because when you name something defining a moment in time and space (time man made - space not). Numerologists are brought in by big business to name products and to define the vibration that comes from a name i.e. did you know McVities employed a Numerologist to come up with the name 'HobNobs'...now their best selling biscuit..

So yes name's in business are vital !!

For a twitter response I'd say the branding is more important than the business name.

Honesty represents everything I believe in, so for me it was very important - it encapsulates my "mission" and "vision".

Dont be so sure of that.... a lot of names get released back into the wild once they have been dormant for a while. I recently managed to secure www.learnsocialmedia.co.uk which, although wouldnt necessarily be a great company name, it is a domain that one would have thought would have been snapped up a LONG time ago....

When I bought that domain, I also picked up 10 other domains that I will be using in the coming months but I assumed would have been picked up a long time ago.....

It is important, in my opinion it should be simple, memorable and easy to spell!

Number of times people tell me their company name over the phone or elsewhere and I have to ask how to spell it because it some mixture or bastardisation of words or an attempt at being clever, it's just a barrier to finding out more for me.

Rubbish. All the generic ones have gone, agreed, you just need to be a bit more original/ creative.

I recently registered londonwordpress.com - Great for SEO, great as a company name. It does what it says and you can't get simpler than that.

Yes it's very important, and quite tricky to get right! I'm currently working on two new business ideas which have to have a separate branding from Physis, and it's giving me a headache! No TWO headaches.... maybe I'm just not the creative type...
