Lloyds Bank - Internet Banking

If any of you use this service please take a look at the front screen when you go to login. In our case this first appeared on Monday but it might be something being phased in. No communication from the Bank, no card reader(s) or authentication cards supplied. It also states the existing easy to use system will be withdrawn in 28 days and you won't be able to access your own money on line. It is for users to form their own views but to me it is a fine example of Hutber's Law as it will involve material extra input from the user. Lloyds have been bragging about delivering a new and improved internet experience for 2 years and then deliver this, but fail on basic communications. You couldn't make it up. |

Carl, Did you know about it before it arrived? This has come out of the blue for us. |

I use HSBC and have a code repeater for security I also use Barclays and have a card reader Both of these are a pain but, as in everything else we adapt for the sake of convenience.
Wait until you have an anal cavity search when you try to deposit your cash... hmmh! (you heard it here first) |

Had a card reader /encryption device from my bank (not Lloyds) for some two years now. Why are L so late? To busy buying other banks whilst they were cheap to get? The card reader takes two slightly uncommon batteries, out of power = no access to your account. Took me 3 days plus 12 miles back and forth to get hold of such batteries (for £ 4.95). There are better ways, encryption devices can be sealed units which never need new batteries. Bank security dealings are at times laughable beyond words. Got a letter from one of my cards recently, advising me about some security problem on my card. It came 10 long days after the event, because sent by 2nd class. They claimed they called me that day, not true as I have a call logbook on my telephone system. The letter had none of the known phone numbers of that bank on it, a socalled London number started with 028 (note not 0208 !! ) All this counts for a highly suspicious letter, right? Well, it was genuine. "To protect me" they sent each and every transaction after that date to their authorisation team, perfectly legitimate orders I made were declined, I had to take the embarrassment for a declined card, not some computer. Strange, stupid, silly. |

I'm in the process of ditching Lloyds TSB due to various incidents of poor service. The problem is, none of their competitors (the ones they don't own) seem to be any better. |

the trouble is you have to use the machine to even be able to log into your account, let alone actually do anything . i cant even check a balance from home or wherever I am without carrying the F£@ing reader with me everywhere i go... and putting the debit card in it!
Refresh my memory....... whats the BENEFIT? |

Must admit I didnt know about it in advance, but I also must admit they may have written to me and I ignored the letter. This all happened during a hectic house move so I may have just filed the letter. |

No problem. I shall revert to sending out cheques. Already, the online system is too clunky. We discovered an interesting security flaw in the Lloyds system this week too, it would be very easy to get past the security at present! Not going to share it, or use it, but worth you all being aware of! |

I've got my card reader and they did write to me about it about a week or so before I got it. It's a right old faff. What if I want to make a online transaction and I don't have the reader with me? Don't get that bit. Faffety, faff faff. |

It could be so easy: The first time you transfer money to a new recipient, you'd need the device. For subsequent transfers not. Pure access to account to check the balance just with passwords. What could an attacker do with the information when I paid my last gas bill? |

What the banks are conceding with these measures, is that the security of their online services is low. As is the security of their credit card transaction services - very low indeed. Like most businesses, we almost exclusively pay online, using few, if any cheques. I am happy to revert to cheques, however, and shall if the online becomes annoying! |

I think I now use systems from all main banks (basic internet, and the corporate level). Card readers I have got used to, but I think the HSBC key fob number generator is the easiest to use, and probably their system is the most friendly (at the business rather than corporate level). Santander still don't use a card reader, and pretty good online system, but the rest of the service is awful I am surprised that Lloyds didn't inform, sometimes they have a habit of telling you too much, and then that gets very, very dull, and you forget they told you once |
