It's tempting to look at the tax implications of CO2 emissions, fuel economy and financial parsimony but I offer a fresh perspective. As you are looking to cover 20,000 miles per annum, I would suggest you equip yourself with the vehicle with the best safety rating that is also a pleasure to drive- you are an Alfa male after all! I was mulling the very same issue when my 5 series estate was hit by a 47-tonner on the motorway. I walked away. The sheer solidity and mass of the car kept me on this mortal coil, whereas driving a more economical option would certainly have delivered a less pleasant outcome. Be safe - go big. Live with the extra costs. With the emphasis on 'live'. Or buy a Skoda Superb (they are) with 4-wheel drive for this increasingly perennial icy weather. Yes - exceedingly good point. Like my profile says, around 1/3 of people killed each year in collisions were driving for work, making it the 3rd most dangerous occupation in the UK (and that's before you add in the dangers in what you actually do once you get there). A road risk management policy should include suitability of vehicle for the purpose as well as types of roads used. By way of example motorways, despite the massive traffic volume account for just 4% of collisions and 4% of deaths. |

I do agree, to an extent. I think driving a bit more carefully is the best advice (that is my judgement, I am no expert). After that, a latest model car with many safety features (eg ESP or whatever it is called, the anti-skid thing which is a scandal it is not fitted to all cars), 5 stars etc... then the physical mass of the car. But I think there is a balance. For example, there are situations where a car will do better than others. Example: I might be able to swerve/avoid an accident in my TT that Brad may not (in his RR Sport) but in the accident he may do better. Also, I am sure my car can stop better than his (his being a tonne heavier). So one car may avoid a shunt another one may have - if the difference is just, say, 6 metres. I think it depends which situation... |

If that is leaseasy.co.uk then that is yet another site that is acting criminally, ignoring the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.
Why do car leasing companies have illegal websites? This is so misleading for consumers. |

That's good, eh? So until then, you continue to break the law. That's the spirit! :) |

Except, their claim that they are saving the habitat of the Polar Bear is disingenuous, their cars kill Polar Bears by emitting exactly the same amount of CO2 as the same new cars from me (and anyone else). To use the cuddly image of an animal species that is being killed off by (in part) the use of cars, is really a sick way to sell cars. It also breaks the Advertising Standards guidelines for the inappropriate use of "green" advertising to sell goods that are NOT "green". Bad marketing - marketing a lie. |
