Ok so next Monday is my 24th wedding anniversary. However it is also the night when QPR should secure promotion against Derby at Loftus Rd in front of a home crowd. Its 15 years since we were last in Premiership so its a big event and there havent been many highs during this period (we havent even won a cup tie in 10 years - even losing to Vauxhall motors !). As`a season ticket holder (even when we were in the third tier) along with my son (in fact I attended one game a few seasons ago with my dad, grandmother, two sons and grandaughter - 5 generations at one game surely will never be beaten) I think its only fair that I should be given a free pass and be allowed to attend. No tickets available for my wife to go sadly. Can anyone give me some advice as to how to bring my wife to her senses and realise that great milestone successes at QPR come once or twice in a generation whereas anniversaries come every year. She is seriously annoyed. I offerred to take her out during the day instead but she wont cancel her appointment to get her hair done ! I helpfully pointed out that wives and children come and go but your football team is always there for you and never complains but she still wont see reason. Have i just married a wrong un ? Please vote above (if i have managed to set it up properly). |

For me, there's no question. No matter how desparately I wanted to go to the football, my wife is more important. And if she knows how much it cost to choose to spend the time with her instead, it will mean all the more to her. Sacrificing your own desires for the sake of the other is what marriage is all about. |

I'm not married, but if i married my current missus and even asked her that question i wouldn't be married much longer! |

As a divorce solicitor who wants more clients i must advise that you go to the football. As a Sheff Utd fan i must also advise you go to the football. What were QPR playing at on Saturday? 4-1 at Sc**thorpe. Thanks Warnock. Im not bitter...... |

Man up and get yourself to the football. Politely promise her that when the day comes that she manages to get herself 90 minutes away from promotion to the premiership that you'll be there for her. They'll be a lot of making up to do, but i'm sure you can manage it. Obviously having gone through all this QPR will inevitably make a mess of it next monday and promotion will roll on to the following weekend.... |

There are clearly some better men out there than me, coz I'd be Football all the way! :) but here's a plan........................ Book into a posh hotel near the QPR ground, one where you can have treatments, massages etc. Then check in, drinks and meal at 6pm, finishing about 7-7:15. Then tell her she needs to go to the room to get changed as she has a 2 hour treatment booked from 8-10, facial, massage etc. You go to football, be back about 10. HAPPY DAYS!! But if that fails, just tell her you'll see her the night after!!! :P |

I think a big point here is that marriage is about give and take and taking into account one's spouse. So why can't my wife take into account my feelings and settle for a 24 hour deferral. I think that's the point. If my wife had a similarly important event I wouldnt hesitate to defer a night out. Thomas your quote is absolutely spot on and I am going to quote it to her "Sacrificing your own desires for the sake of the other is what marriage is all about." She needs to send me off to the football with her blessing ! I think I'll see what the results are tonight. All the teams are playing so it will finally decide what is at stake on the night. John's idea of booking into a posh hotel near the QPR ground is a wonderful idea but clearly made by someone who has never been to Shepherds Bush !! |

If you go to the game and QPR loses you'll be feeling doubly sh1t. If you don't go and they win you get the joy of them going into the Premiership AND a happy wife. Hope that helps. |

You have got me there Barry, definitley never been to Shepherds Bush!! :) Totally agree though you're wife will understand!! Surely! Although I have just had a look at the table and fixtures and I don't think you will win promotion that night...................... Cardiff and swansea, both just 10 points behind. Even after the Derby Game there will still be 4 games to go, so if one of Cardiff or Swansea have won both games (Which Cardiff look likely to, with 2 easy games) then Even if you win away to Barnsley and Home to Derby you wont be promoted as still 12 points to play for and only 10 clear!? So not sure it's a problem at all!!!! :) DONT LET YOUR WIFE READ THIS THOUGH, IF YOU WANT TO GO TO THE GAME!! |

Remember to secure promotion 2 teams have to overtake us. It is true that having lost to sc**thorpe it has possibly shiftted the schedule. Let's see what tonight holds. I'll report back tomorrow. Actually this could be a good opportunity because if we cant secure promotion I could miss the game but my wife will think I have sacrificed all. In the meantime I have arranged to take her away the following weekend. I thought a city break to a capital city. Yes that's right Cardiff on St Georges day and we have tickets for the QPR away game !!!!!!!!!!! Of corse the real fear is that next year on the 25th wedding anniversary we will be away at Anfield or similar.

If I were in that situation, knowing how much it would mean to be hubby to be there in those circumstances, I wouldn't hold it against him all. I'd encourage him to go, hope that they won - and expect us to celebrate in style on a different evening. Good luck! |

I'd go to the football, no question about it! After all, there'll always be other wedding anniversaries (you hope!) Seriously, it is a tricky one. I'm a huge footie fan myself so I'd understand completely but I know there are some women around who just don't get how important it is .... I quite like the idea of booking her in for a massage and facial while the game's on! |
