Nobody's ever walked from the ice edge of Antarctica to the South Pole and back before - so I'm doing it with friend and fellow adventurer John Wilton-Davies.
To make the trek even more interesting we'll be covering the 2,200km on foot with no support or re-supply. So, in a nutshell, we'll be pulling our 200kg+ sleds through ridiculously low temperatures and viciously high winds for around twenty miles a day, every day, for around three months.
It's not all about two guys fulfiling a dream though; we want to make the expedition as useful as we can to as many people as possible so we've got LOADS going on! Our adopted charity for the expedition is the British Heart Foundation. As well as aiming to raise a seven figure sum for their coffers, we'll be working with them to roll out campaigns to help people help themselves by adopting a healthy lifestyle. We've also got an environmental charity using us to highlight issues in the region, a head injuries charity using us to show what's possible even after you've had a major brain injury (see my bio on the website!), and we're just launching a MASSIVE education section in the coming weeks.
To make the expedition a success and make sure that it's as useful as possible we need help. As well as sponsorship (funds, equipment, services, resources) we need help with the marketing and PR, administering our education programme, booking talks and lectures around the UK, talking to the press and helping to organise our gala evenings and auctions. If anyone wants to get involved in any way then please do drop me a line.
Metamorphasis in progress... watch me turn into an international adventurer and charity worker.
Aiming to raise £1m for British Heart Foundation using our Last Great Challenge next year
