Before joining my partner Peter Mitchell at Chef's Choice Ltd in November 2015, I had over 20 years’ experience spanning across various management and contract roles in sales, marketing, business development and quality management. I had been travelling the country UK wide working as a contractor on both short and long-term projects with SMEs and large corporate organisations, all of which came to an abrupt halt following back surgery in 2015.
Prior to, and following surgery, I spent 6 months at home, frustrated at being house-bound and not working or being actively involved in something, so I started delving into my partner’s business and couldn’t resist putting forward my ideas and suggested plans for business improvement. Although he may say I was ‘interfering’, he still asked me to join the business to put the plans in to place.
I joined the business as Co-Director and Company Secretary taking responsibility for sales, marketing, finance, health & safety, compliance and HR, leaving Peter responsibility for the warehouse operation, produce purchasing and stock management, transport and distribution.
Joining forces with our varied skills and experience, we are a dynamic team driving the business forward with aggressive plans in 2017 for growth and expansion. In the last 6 months, we have successfully relocated the business from a small industrial unit in Grays, to a larger warehouse in Basildon, recruited extra staff, implemented food hygiene and health and safety management systems, trained all staff in food hygiene and health and safety and now working on expanding our client base and delivery area.
