Sharone Perlstein is a successful entrepreneur in a wide variety of fields, ranging from real estate to sustainable resource development. He is the co-founder of Canadel Group, a private real estate company, and was Canadel’s director until 2008. He has invested in several major sustainable development projects across the world, and continues to promote renewable resources around the globe. With over 30 years of experience in the corporate world, Perlstein brings expertise, business acumen, and creative thinking to his many areas of interest.
From Finance to Real Estate
Born in Israel in 1971, Perlstein graduated from the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana in 1993. He immediately gravitated towards the fast-paced, challenging atmosphere of Wall Street, and became a stockbrocker for a Chinese firm soon after his graduation from college. Within a few years, he was working as the Corporate Finance Specialist for the New York firm Orly Capital, Inc., where he oversaw US and European exchanges.
He continued his work with Orly Capital until 2004, when he began his transition from stockbroker to entrepreneur. In July, 2006, he co-founded Canadel Group, which developed and invested in unique real estate projects around the world. Perlstein’s major project as co-founder and director of Canadel was his recruitment of AIG Global Real Estate as a lasting co-investment partner.
Agriculture and Sustainable Development
Sharone Perlstein’s first foray into agriculture came in 2008, when, inspired by his work in Eastern Europe with Canadel, he founded BSD Ukraine Agro Ltd. BSD Ukraine was an agricultural company responsible for the management of 10,000 hectare of land in the Ukraine.
In 2010, Perlstein began his groundbreaking collaboration with the Rainforest Trust, a private company involved in rainforest conservation. As a partner in the Rainforest Trust, managed to preserve 800,000 hectares of endangered rainforest in Brazil, and collaborated with the Mexican, Indonesian, and Cambodian governments to save the rainforests in those countries.
Also in 2010, Perlstein’s career in finance began to act as investor and corporate advisor for a biofuel plantation in Indonesia. In tandem with Waterland International, which manages bio-fuel plantations across Indonesia, Perlstein manufactured jatropha oil, a plant-based, renewable source of energy. With Waterland, Perlstein managed 60,000 hectares of jatropha trees, and supplied the resulting oil to Boeing and Airbus to determine whether it could be used a substitute for jet fuel.
Paying it Forward
Even throughout these inventive global projects, Perlstein remained rooted in corporate finance, the field in which he had first started his career. From 2004 until 2011, he was the owner of BrookBank Enterprises, which counted BSD Ukraine among its projects. BrookBank built up a reputation for identifying unusual investments and connecting them with first-class managers and investors.
Since 2011, Perlstein has set the goal of providing others with the opportunities he encountered throughout his career; he provides business loans to create new businesses and help struggling companies in a variety of markets. Sharone is a big Microfinance enthusiast and is researching new markets that could benefit greatly using Microfinance and serve the local economy.
An Eye for Art
In addition to his passion for entrepreneurship, Sharone Perlstein is an avid art collector with a particular love of modern art. His personal collection of paintings is among his proudest achievements, and whenever he has a spare moment from work, he can be found at auctions and art sales.
