My story starts in Enschede, in The Netherlands. I grew up with a younger brother and sister. My studies in Social Work lead to my first adventure of living abroad, in Illinois, USA, for 1 year of practical experience as part of my studies. Whilst there I worked as a Counsellor of Victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse. My dissertation compared the supports systems for victims in different countries.
Straight after university I got a temp job at a distribution centre for apparel and footwear. Within a year I was offered a full time job by one of the in-house clients; Vans. In 2001 my employer decided to consolidate their European financial office with a new customer service department in the UK. They offered me the job to set up and run this new customer service department. We had everything sorted, they opened a bank account for me, but we reached an impasse at salary discussions and they wouldn't pay me in line with what I already earned and currency exchange rated and I had to decline the job.
Since I now had a bank account in the UK this meant I had an opportunity to apply for jobs in the UK as well, so I put my CV online - it was 2001, and online job hunting was quite a new thing in those days! 😉
I got offered a job as a software support consultant at JD Edwards in Stokenchurch and that's how I ended up in Buckinghamshire in 2002. In 2003 I met my husband Mark. We lived in Haddenham and got married there in 2005. We now live in Quainton, in our own tranquil country escape at the outskirts of the village at the foot of the Quainton hills.
