The Worlds Largest Trade Exchange

A Bartercard transaction is similar to a credit card transaction. Members receive a plastic transaction card and an interest-free line of credit. Trade Pounds are credited to the member's Bartercard account upon the sale of goods and services through the exchange. Members use their Bartercard transaction card to spend their credit balance or draw on their interest-free line of credit, on goods and services from any other Bartercard member of which their are circa 75,000. Benefits are improved cashflow, greater profitability and a distinct competitive edge. A Trade Pound is recognised by HM Government as a legal currency and all normal accounting rules apply making management and accountability a very simple affair. Think of it as an "alternative currency" that runs alongside, and in harmony with, cash and you get the picture.

About Geoff Shilton

Since joining Bartercard I have won over 40 awards including “Top performer UK Sales” on numerous occasions, “Top International Sales Legend” and “Sales Manager of the year”. I have qualified for the “Top Sales Legends” ( International Sales Conference) on several occasions with trips to Thailand, New Zealand and the Gold Coast in Australia as prizes.
My sales, by necessity, have all been self generated through strong networking and referral chains and I would describe myself as a self motivated, professional sales achiever with the necessary strong work ethic required to achieve and exceed targets.
1994– 2000
CAR SALES and DISTRIBUTION. self employed
Working with a 30 strong network of car dealers, buying, selling, trading and retailing cars and vans. Capitalising on the contacts I made during my time with Honda and BMW I built up my business to an annual turnover of £1.2 million employing 1 full time and 3 part time drivers. The market hardened in 2000 and several of my key suppliers folded. At this time I was looking for a new challenge and identified Bartercard as a new and exciting opportunity. I sold the business in early 2000 to fund the purchase of the Bartercard franchise for Dorset.
1992 – 1994
BMW franchised dealer, Cheyne BMW, Parsons Green, London.
Sales Executive responsible for own prospecting, demonstrations and subsequent new and used vehicle sales. I exceeded all sales targets and only left as the dealership was bought out by the Sytner group who then imposed a cap on commissions. I opened several key London accounts including EMI Records, Chelsea Football Club and Virgin.
1990- 1992
WINDMILL HONDA franchised dealer, Swindon, Wiltshire.
Corporate Sales Manager responsible for selling Honda to local businesses. The role required very high levels of prospecting and numerous test drives/demonstrations/quotations. I worked directly with the dealership owners in building a strong Honda presence in Wiltshire and soon exceeded all sales targets. I was eventually head hunted by the Sales Director of a London based BMW dealership and joined them following a very lucrative offer that I simply could not ignore.
1986-1990
Herman Miller Office Furniture Products.
Field Sales Manager. Initially working out of Tottenham Court Road as the London base and then for the Theale, Reading based dealer, Commercial Interiors. I opened several key accounts for their Action Office and Ethospace product range including one for 200+ workstations at Conder Projects in Winchester. Working largely on own initiative through strong prospecting and networking routes. I enjoyed the role immensely and was successful at it but left when downsizing was in place.
1982 – 1986
CANON UK, Covent Garden, London
Photocopier Sales Manager. My role involved demonstrating and selling the full range of Canon photocopiers within my exclusive territory of London WC postal codes and working with a team of 8 salesmen. In 1984 I won the prestigious National Sales Champion of the year and was awarded a new Lotus Excel car. I left after nearly 6 years for personal health reasons.
1979 – 1982
BMW GB Ltd, Bracknell, Berkshire
Zone Sales Manager. This role was newly created in 1979 following the creation of BMW (GB) Ltd by the German parent company (formerly operated as a concession by TKM Holdings Ltd). My area was everything north of Newcastle including Northern Ireland, The Isle of Man and all of Scotland. The role involved working with 14 franchised dealers and 7 police forces selling the BMW motorcycle product. I enjoyed this challenging position but the size of my geographical area required travelling in excess of 1000 miles per week via car or motorcycle. I exceeded all allocated targets but resigned from BMW (GB) as by early 1982 as the role demanded a virtual 7 day attendance and far too much travelling.
1975 – 1978
Dowell Schlumberger – Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Dive Master/Instructor. Working from an oil rig supply vessel, I was responsible for instructing and training a local work force in all aspects of pipeline and rig dive inspection in addition to carrying out quality control and remedial diving work myself. This was dangerous work and highly paid but having lost several colleagues in the latter part of 1977 through cost cutting measures in relation to the supply of our diving equipment and support infrastructure, I resigned my position after 4 years
1969 – 1975
Royal Navy
Ships Diver / Radio Operator.
Served in HMS Ganges, HMS Mercury, HMS Vernon, HMS Rothesay and HMS Bossington.
Saw service worldwide the highlight of which was 1 year in Egypt in 1974 clearing the Suez Canal in a joint operation with the American and French Navies.
Largely my work was as a Radio Operator with sub specialisation as a diver. I also represented the Royal Navy in 1972 in the annually run NATOCOMCOMP ( communications competition) held in Italy where I took 3rd place in Morse Code transmission and reception. In 1971 I won the Royal Navy Light Heavyweight boxing championships and went on to record 67 undefeated matches during my five years in the Royal Navy. My conduct on discharge was recorded as “exemplary”.
HOBBIES & INTERESTS
I have a fantastic family life and enjoy spending “family time” with all of them, particularly my 3 year old daughter Gracie. Having been brought up in a musical family I have always enjoyed singing and 10 years ago decided to take it up as a paying hobby. I now can be seen in various venues as “The Soul Man” specialising in Motown, Soul, Swing and Blues. My passion however is cooking although music and piano playing come a close second.
