I have owned multiple business over the last 12 years and been involved in helping other businesses develop and grow in a consultant type role. I have been involved on and off with Network Marketing for 25 years now.
Before we start, heres a great quote for you...
Human beings can alter their lives by altering their
attitudes of mind. - William James
Well, where do I start?
I have had a huge variety in my working life from retail management to field sales both B2B and B2C. At the age of 29 I decided to join the Police. Had an enjoyable time serving London and did several specialisations including becoming a trainer looking after 10 police stations in south London. During this period I was also a single dad bringing up two young sons which I did for 10 years. Life wasn't too easy I can tell you!
After 7 years in the police I was offered a role by a large financial services group as a regional recruitment manager, so I decided to leave the police and join them. Things started to slow down in financial services and I could see the writing on the wall so as I had always wanted to own my own business in 2000 I took a huge gamble and bought a franchise. Luckily for me that was successful. Following some personal issues in 2002 I decided to sell up and moved out to Thailand in 2003 to live.
I initially bought a small car rent business and that kept me going for 18 months. I then went into partnership and bought a monthly property magazine. Developed that and also a Multiple Listing Website to compliment the magazine. That was successful and I eventually bought out my partners.
During this period I also got involved with Rotary, and joined an English speaking club and ended up being President 2007-2008.
Late 2007 I was diagnosed with colon cancer. Whilst in hospital and following my operation I caught an infection called Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrom (ARDS). At one stage in November 2007 was given 3 days to live. I was rushed to a Bangkok hospital where after being on life support for 6 weeks and spending 11 weeks in hospital I pulled through.
I then underwent chemotherapy in early 2008.
After all that I sold up in Thailand and returned to the UK, with double the money I went out there with. And that is very unusual for Thailand, believe me! I returned home in July 2008. In August 2008 and now back in the arms of the dear old NHS and after various scans and tests I got given the all clear on the cancer front (huge sigh of relief). UPDATE - Nov 2012 5 years all clear given!
