Rod Fisher, Wealthguard
Rod is the Senior Partner of Wealthguard and specialises in asset protection - protecting the family home, business and savings from Inheritance Tax, Care Fees and Probate Fees. In addition he's involved with family Wills, Trusts and Probate work. He's the author of several consumer guides on legal matters which are designed specifically for the lay person. He'll also help you unravel the many confusing regulations relating to these matters and explain in clear, jargon free language how to reduce their impact on your wealth.
Rod is also a regular speaker on these topics and indeed, for over three years, he was a full-time professional speaker on financial matters.
When not working, Rod enjoys gardening, fell walking, local history and road running. He takes part in competitive road races and has completed marathons in New York, London and Snowdonia. He's also climbed Mount Pico in the Azores!
Rod is highly qualified in legal matters and is linked with the following organisations:
(1) Fellow of the Institute of Professional Willwriters (IPW)
Training is to degree standard and entrance is by examination only. IPW members are considered to have a much higher level of specialist knowledge and technical skill for drafting Wills than most family solicitors - who are more akin to legal GPs. Surprisingly, many solicitors receive no training in Wills and Trusts - an area of law which is rarely included as a compulsory element in solicitor law degree courses.
All IPW Members undertake obligatory ongoing professional training and development - which is a mandatory requirement of continuing IPW Membership
Members are also covered by £2 million Professional Indemnity Insurance (for each and every claim). IPW has had no claims upheld in its history - reflecting the high professional standards maintained by its Members.
In conjunction with the Office of Fair Trading, IPW Members operate in strict accordance with a Code of Practice - ensuring clients are treated fairly at all times within pre-determined guidelines. The IPW Code of Practice upholds higher standards than the Law Society guidelines under which solicitors operate.
(2) Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP)
STEP is an elite professional body for estate practitioners worldwide who have demonstrated an exceptional level of Trust expertise. Entrance is by examination only and ongoing professional development is mandatory. STEP provides comprehensive training for its Members.
STEP is the leading professional body involved in shaping amendments to UK Trust law in conjunction with HMRC, as well as in other parts of the world.
(3) Member of the Association of Will & Probate Lawyers (AWPL)
Membership of this professional body is open to persons who have demonstrated a high level of knowledge and technical expertise in both Will and Probate Law - largely through membership of other recognised professional bodies.
(4) Member of the Institute of Legacy Management (ILM)
This is a non-profit professional organisation for persons qualified to administer charity funds and raise funds through legacy fundraising. It also provides training and support for its Members who represent over 260 major charities mainly within England, Wales and Scotland. Members deal with over two thirds of the £1.5 billion that is annually left to charity.
Members hold the Certificate in Charity Legacy Administration - in conjunction with the College of Law.
ILM maintains close links with STEP, IPW, The Law Society and the British Bankers Association.
