Where shall I start?
Ok - well I was born one day before Halloween in Southampton. I grew up in a small village just outside Lymington, idyllic in many respects - if you like the thought of horses outside your front gate, well that's my childhood.
With two older sisters (the age gap was 7 & 6 years) in the early eighties I was subjected to the Kids from Fame album and Fantastic by Wham! - this led to a happy relationship with music, rather surprisingly. During the early 00's I even had my own hospital radio show. Yes, I know...captive audience!!
Left my Secondary School as Head Boy, quite how I managed that is still a mystery. My first job was with Waitrose, working at weekends which progressed into full time employment. I worked on the very best section, Wines and Spirits. Six months in, and I found what I had been looking for - a Telesales role with a local free newspaper. It was very much a learning curve, but it drove me to decide that I wanted to remain in a sales role.
Onwards and upwards, I joined Halifax Plc in 1995, and stayed with them until 1999, working in branches across the South Coast - advising on Halifax Mortgages and Life Protection. After reaching one of those 'great decisions made in a pub' moments, I decided to move into recruitment.
I recruited Residential Wardens for Sheltered Housing. Rivetting stuff. I did get to know the M25 during that time though. After being promised the earth upon joining, I soon realised the reality was very different. Time to move on....
In 2000 I joined Cheltenham & Gloucester - my 'proper' apprenticeship in mortgage advice. During my six years with them I worked in numerous branches between Southampton and Bournemouth, underwriting the mortgages as well as advising on them. During this time I also built and maintained strong working relationships with mortgage brokers who introduced business to us.
In 2006 I was headhunted by a national IFA who had recently taken over another business just outside Southampton. During my time with LEBC Group I developed strong working relationships with local and national introducers, including associations linked to the Royal Navy. I also designed and presented mortgage seminars to staff at the BBC's Broadcasting House in London.
Then, the downturn. Following a nationwide review and the mortgage market collapsing almost overnight, I was made redundant in October 2008.
After completing studies for part of the CII Financial Planning Exams, I had applied for 10's of positions, without success. Not enough experience for some roles, too much experience for others.
So, whilst in Sweden at Christmas with my family visiting the in-laws over some vodka, a plan was hatched.
In May 2009 Lentune Mortgage Consultancy Ltd began trading. The rest, they say, is still a work in progress................
'Comfortably' in my mid-thirties, happily married with two beautiful daughters, a cocker spaniel, rabbit, oh and a New Forest Pony. Life is good.
